Being that I am new to Smith & Wesson products and just recently purchased a 4506-1 model, I am shocked to see that apparently they have decided to move away from these type pistols.
Looking at the Product Guide it's evident their emphasis is more on the single action 1911 style platform.
I really like this 4506 and especially like the de-cock feature as well as the single/double action feature. I have had any number of 1911's and think the safety system on the 4506 is a much safer way to carry with one in the chamber.
Why would Smith & Wesson abandon the 4506-type system in favor of the 1911? Why not continue both?
I understand the popularity of the 1911's but my gosh look at how many companies are now building the 1911 and for a lot less money then you can get a Smith.
I sure am glad I was able to obtain this 4506. I really think it is one fine platform and don't mind the extra weight because to me, it makes that old 45ACP cartridge a little easier to shoot.
What say you?
