I wasnt aware that open carry was allowed in as many as 45 States

Try open carry in Cincinnatti, Cleveland, or other metro areas if you wanna play that game....

Common sense, again, dictates to CC, likewise an invitation for the inner-city tribal parasites to gang up and grab a gun is only sport for the short-lived fool-hardy who "know their State Laws" and "know their RIGHTS"......

Walk the talk, or go home.

I've OCed all over the midwest it's simply not a big deal even in the ghetto...criminals as a whole want victims
There are some real predators.out there that may look to take on a obviously armed person.... but by the almost non-existent amount of incidents they are very rare and not a big worry.

Deal in facts not fears

LEO's have a funny way of forcing that issue . . .
Bad cops do, yes.

The first time I was illegally detained by a Tacoma police officer, he lectured me that if he EVER heard a radio call about me carrying openly again, he would take the call even if it wasn't assigned to him, confiscate my handgun, and I would have to ask the judge to make them give it back, which he assured me the judge would never do.

When he was asked by his sergeant later, he denied that he had said any of those things. OK, so a bad cop lied, no biggie right? The heartbreaking part was the good cop who was there trying to reign him in was also asked, and he had to lie to back up the bad cop.

Fast forward about eight months; security at the Museum of Glass downtown called the cops on me when I walked by their turf on my way down to the waterfront; and guess who responded? Same bad cop who swore he would take my pistol. He asked to see my CPL (wasn't carrying it since I didn't need one to OC) and I ask if I'm being detained. He says no, but if you show me your CPL you can be on your way. I politely remind him that if I'm not detained I am already free to be on my way. He shifted tactics a little and said he just wanted to check the expiration date; implying it was sort of a public service thing. I figured out his game- he was just wasting my time so that from the security folks perspective it looked like he was handling the situation.

I decided to walk away, so I politely (always polite) wished him a good day and was walking past him when I saw his sergeant approaching. The sergeant told me I was free to go and I got to hear the leading edge of a lecture between the sergeant and his bad cop.

The OC movement in WA looked at situations like these as 'teaching moments' for the first year or so. After that we started using the legal system. As mentioned previously some people took home some settlement money, and some took home a lot of settlement money. Today it is rare for a cop to respond to a simple man with a gun call and harass the OCer.

I jest really like these threads....A feller can get a feel for the lay of the land.

Those that respect open carry and concealed carry,
and those that don't have any respect any that don't carry their way.

Since I have discovered that ignore feature, I can enjoy threads with those folks that are even minded. ;)

My kinda deal, open carry, concealed carry or both at the same time, it's all good. :D

May God Bless American Again.

I have never seen anyone in public doing the things that cause so much controversy in other states, like grocery shopping with an AR slung over your back.

Ah, Texas! It has always been legal to open carry long guns in Texas. People started doing it to demonstrate the idiocy that you could do that but you couldn't open carry handguns.

In Oklahoma they modified the Self-Defense Act to allow open carry, and it has been a non-event. I do it daily because, well, the uniform and badge and all...

I don't know, but as far as I know, they haven't said anything locally, against it. However, one that I'm near about four days a week, has lots of LEOS eating there and all carrying with zero customer complaints. Many aren't in uniforms either.

Kid,

I was dining at the Bean & Burger in Athens, Tex one time and a plainclothes Sheriff's Deputy came in with a couple of Rangers...I noticed the Deputy's yaqui belt holster was sans pistol.....when I quizzed him as to it's where abouts, He went into a panic, charged back out to his car. Came back in lookin kinda sheepish, sed he left it on the car seat while tuckin in his shirt tail and adjusting his britches.

Only time I've ever witnessed a panic over a pistol in an eat joint. ;):D

Speaking from many years of experience (probably more than you have on the planet, altogether).

Perhaps a walk in the evening, OC, in Detroit , or Cleveland (East side), or Chicago (South side) would enlighten some who live in rural and suburban areas?

So you're claiming to have carried openly as a private citizen (IOW, not police) for more than 52 years?

Excuse me if I find that a little hard to believe.

In any event, you are also claiming that during the 52 years you were doing so, you had someone disarm you often enough that you are now against open carry?

Seriously though, if you have evidence of the actions you claim are a certainty, please enlighten me. The playing coy nonsense is childish.

Do it all the time 50 plus hours a week Detroit, Flint, Pontiac Saginaw Indy Gary etc...
I'm 47 and have carried for 29 years OC and CC...

OCers getting shot first and or robbed of their gun is just fear mongering for the most part

Since 1963, NEVER been disarmed in all that time.

That's not to say I haven't been stopped, questioned, put on the ground, etc.

Here in Kentucky open carry has always been legal but must be aware that some localities may restrict it somewhat. I don't believe I would open carry in Louisville. ITS LEGAL TO CARRY IN YOUR VEHICLE compartments ,loaded, unloaded , locked or unlocked without any type permitt.

Open carry has to be the biggest non-issue ever. All the fussing and fantasy fretting... over nothing. OC is legal here in Tennessee as well as most states in some form or another. The sky isn't falling. Yawn.
I alway carry conceived when visiting Pigeon Forge from Kentucky but have never open carry there... Also conceil carry when visiting Ohio.

Open carry is legal in many states. Not a problem.

We'll never hear any more about this after tomorrow.

My observations as of this mornings ride. I've seen one passenger with his weapon, wore a tankers shoulder holster ( like I would IF I decided to carry?) which had a G.I. .45 residing in it. Nobody riding seemed to care or notice. The bus driver gave him two thumbs up, while I grinned like a baboon. So far, he hasnt shot anyone and I've seen no blood in the streets. Also, no undercover LEO on board. The passengers .45, never leaped from shoulder holster and never aimed itself and never discharged. Hmmmmm, just what I figgered would happen.

I sense you have a problem with the police? Before and after I was in, I have had runins with a VERY few bad cops. Knowing and being friends with a certain Kleberg, County Judge, has its benefits. That said, yeah, I have known a sum total of 3 bad cops out of the several hundreds I've known or met. One I worked with while State of Texas LE, and he was a punk then and still is a punk. Another has long sense been fired, and the last one, has to permanently watch his ps and qs, or will be fired.
