I don't normally open carry, but i am glad that the law was passed to allow open carry. I recently began carrying a Glock 30 (45 SA) and it is on my
left side at 10 o'clock. Outside my vehicle it is covered by my shirt, but
inside my vehicle, it is difficult to draw if it is positioned under the shirt and possibly a jacket on colder days. So now that it is positioned right under my left hand and arm it is easy to draw without being slowed if
the need arises. Outside my vehicle it is more important to me that if
I have to draw i would rather draw with the gun concealed. It seems to
me that inside the vehicle it is more important to be able to rapidly access the gun if needed, so for that reason I am glad that the law was
recently changed.

I live in the SSRNJ, and while you can carry your shotgun openly during hunting season with a valid hunting license, forget attempting that with a handgun.

NJ is a "may issue state", and doesn't grant it's citizens the right to self defense in its constitution. Attempt to open carry or carry concealed, and you are facing felony charges. Unless you are either politically connected or a retired LEO, forget getting a CCW. QUOTE]

In fact, being the victim of domestic violence is a nearly automatic disqualifier for a purchase permit![/ I find this extremely disturbing since victims should be No.1 in line for purchase and CC permits.

WV is a little odd in that yes we have open carry, but you can get a whole new set of problems such as if you OC a pistol in a vehicle the game warden can fine you for illegal hunting.

I read that one and asked around and it is technically true, never heard of it happening but it can happen supposedly.

:D

I worked in WV back in the late 1960s. I remember a similar incident. One of my employees was out somewhere carrying a rod and reel, or maybe it was in his car (I don't remember the circumstances). He was cited by a game warden for "attempting to fish without a license."

It's sad to say....But, it's silliness like that, that puts the squirrel patrol in a bad light still today.

Open-carry, while certainly better than no-carry, has one drawback: an armed criminal will probably shoot you immediately as soon as he sees the gun on your hip. Concealed-carry avoids that problem. A small but very important detail. --

Is this fact or your opinion? Some fervently argue the opposite...
As a 30-year law enforcement veteran, I've heard it happening on rare occasion, but never directly. Conversely, I have spoke with many BGs who said it was a deterrent. Not saying it hasn't happened, but it's human nature to take the path of least resistance and choose the softest target possible, and that's not usually a person packing heat.

N. C. is and has been open carry for as long as I can remember, I however for the most part carry concealed. I have purposely OC'D a couple of times with the express purpose of seeing if anyone really ever noticed or cared. I have not had any problems. I still prefer CC because it gives me the advantage of surprise if needed and does not advertise the fact that I am carrying at all.

You can add Dollar Tree stores to the gun friendly list. My much better half works there. Last week corporate sent out an email to all their managers reminding them they respect all state laws concerning open and concealed carry. They were instructed to ignore anyone they noticed carrying and treat them like any other customer.

Here in Utah open carry has been allowed for as long as I can remember. I'm the type of person that goes with there is a time and a place. I've opened carried during hunting seasons and when hiking and riding on the deserts and hills. That t means on those trips I've opened carried when stopping for gas, a quick run into a store or maybe a while getting a meal. Never had anyone look at me sideways.

I'm not sure I get the type of person that tucks their camo cargo pants in their shiny high top black combat boots and throws a SKS over their tee shirt covered shoulder for a trip to the mall. I guess I'm not sure that is an image, as gun owners, we need. I understand the political statement but wonder if it is helping or hurting the cause. But I guess each to their own. I just think it doesn't fit my idea of the proper time and place. I would say from the number of people I've seen open carrying here in Utah most feel the same.

It's a good thing that they didn't see the Zippo in his pocket or he would have been cited for attempted arson.

Try open carry in Cincinnatti, Cleveland, or other metro areas if you wanna play that game....

Common sense, again, dictates to CC, likewise an invitation for the inner-city tribal parasites to gang up and grab a gun is only sport for the short-lived fool-hardy who "know their State Laws" and "know their RIGHTS"......

Walk the talk, or go home.

Its a regular occurence in those cities

So the "...inner-city tribal parasites..." gang up and grab police officers' openly carried guns a lot up there? Really?

I don't demean those who carry concealed with: "The concealed weapon is the tool of card cheats and assassins." I grow weary of those who demean open carriers as "short-lived" and "fool-hardy." I keep waiting for all the stories where open carriers have had their guns snatched by "bad guys." I've read about two (2) cases where an open carrier was robbed of his handgun by an armed robber. That's right: two (2). Hardly seems like "...a regular occurence (sic)..." to me.

Save your vitriol for those who want to take our guns.
