I'd Sure Like To Have THAT S&W Back

Too many to list, boohoo. I, like many here, consider myself an accumulator not a collector haha. Through life's ups and downs higher priorities came along so those that didn't get used were passed along.

Now that I'm quickly approaching retirement I'm pretty content with what I have. I enjoyed the ones I let go, not looking back with regrets.

Might check out the gunshow tomorrow so…..:D

I like that last line lol

I bought a 520 when NYSP declined them. Sold it due to need during my first marriage. Should have sold her instead. Also had a 686-6 MG that I sold during a period of inadequate income. I am sure that I will never replace it unless I get very lucky.

Lost my job back two summers ago and sold my two model 10s for rent money. One was a 2" rb no dash and the other was a 4" 10-2. Both were in like new condition. They went to a good home. The guy I sold them to bought them because he wanted them, not to flip them. He didn't even try haggling, $1000.00 for the pair.

Not too many regrets specifically on selling S&W's.....with one notable exception.
A fellow Detective I worked with had offered to buy my M66 3" (Ashland edition). I'd owned and shot it for many years, used often for OD carry.
I was suffering a bout of M1911-itis fever and figured I'd let the M66 go to fund some perceived need in that category.

The M66 went away for $375!. At the time, there was no real fervor for that barrel length - it was just one not seen often, and that was it.

Of course later regretted it. Eventually replaced it with a M65 3" that still gets carried quite a bit. Fills the role very well.

Back when I was making peanuts in the late '80s and early '90s if I wanted a new gun I pretty much had to sell or trade one to be able to afford it. I had a 4inch 625-3 that went on the trade block, and I have no memory of what I traded it for. Oh, well.

So true! Most of the ones I really regretted trading away have been replaced and in most cases upgraded:

4" 10-6 eventually became a 3" 13-2, my 6" 17 became a 6" 48-2, the 4" 66 became a 4" 19-3 and a 4" 28-2 became a '56 4" Highway Patrolman. They all went away in the 80s and came back after 2000, with the expected financial blood letting.

The big regret that still remains: 3" Lew Horton 625. What was I thinking???

4" blued 19-6, which was also my first gun purchase. Bought it new at a Ft. Worth gun show in 1993 for $225 out the door. I don't remember why I sold it. Probably blacked it out. Ugh

The ones I miss are the ones I could have bought, but passed on. Another one of those got away last weekend. . . . .

Same here. Two from a decade ago that haunt me to this day. A 1950s vintage 5 inch Pre Model 27 in excellent condition for $1k and an early Model 66 for maybe $500. Fortunately the precious few sweethearts I've managed to acquire are still with me.

Wish had just about all of them back but heath issues and medical bills had to sell . Model 36 snub and 3" with target grips , Model 64 snub and 4" and Model 67 all pre locks . New Models 586 -6" 686 Snub and 3". With the now high prices doubt will own another S&W revolver :(

I had a nickel Model 29 with a 4" barrel. I traded it like an idiot. This was before I got deep into reloading. I thought the muzzle blast and recoil were just a bit too much for me. I should have kept it and fed it a healthy helping of .44 S&W Special.

That's how mine was. Too much to shoot one handed. 44 magnums were a beast out of that gun.

When I was 19 I bought my first handgun ever…..a model 27 6" barrel that was just cherry.

My younger sisters always wanted to shoot it…..I'd let them put a couple cylinders of 38 special through it, and then I'd slip 1 magnum round into the cylinder and watch their eyes pop open when they got to it.;)

Traded the revolver and a shoulder rig for a dog about a year later.

As much as I would like to have the model 27 back, the dog was one of the best ever!

I'd take a good dog over any handgun any day!!

A 4" 28-2. It was my duty gun in uniform and I continued to use it on stakeouts and raids as a detective. Family needs led to sale of everything except family heirlooms and my engagement present several years later. For a few years I posted "ISO the SN" as my tag line on the forum with an offer of a like replacement plus cash, but I suspect it is in the seat pocket of a pickup in Wyoming and that's ok.

I had added a lime green front sight insert and a white outline rear blade, so I know it's in no one's collection. Worked well in low light, though.

Couldn't have said it better myself!

I don't have that regret because I'm a collector not a seller for the most part. A few that I have sold are duplicates or not in the condition that I wanted, but would not sell if I did not have a better replacement.
My regret will be the day that I have to sell, but hopefully it's another decade or so off as I'm enjoying the journey and sharing my journey with you guys and your journeys with me

Same here. I've sold off some new in box guns because I had high condition shooters to match that I could actually enjoy. I've sold off lower condition duplicates. I almost regret selling a Ruger rifle I liked, but didn't need. I've never sold a Smith I've missed. But then again, I have more than 13 dozen of them. :-)

I consider most of mine as my 401G plan. I'll sell them as needed when I get old.

Sometime in the late 80's I bought a S&W 357 magnum revolver. Still have the receipt to tell exactly when I purchased the 357. It was a Register Magnum with the box serial number 47807, Reg. 883. I sent for a letter and upon receiving the letter it stated the barrel was 6 1/2 with a Call gold bead on the front sight. I was so disappointed that it had been cut to 5 inch barrel that I sold it. It had one of the best action of any other Smiths that I had. Still have the letter to remind me of the mistake I made.

IIRC I've only ever sold 4 of my S&Ws
4" M29-2 with presentation box. I sold it for 4x what I paid for it. No regrets
4" M66-2 NCHP commemorative with presentation stocks & presentation box. Sold it for a reasonable profit to someone with a connection to the NCHP and who therefore had more interest in the commemorative model than I did. Again, no regrets. I replaced it with a 66-1 for significantly less money.
3" M34-2. Got it as part of 4-gun package deal. Sold it for about 1/2 of what I paid for all 4 guns. If I have any regrets about selling one it would probably be this one. But I have other 22LR revolvers in similar configuration, so not a huge regret.
3" M43. Another gun that I got in the above 4-gun deal, and I was also able to sell it for nearly 1/2 of what I paid for all 4 guns. I have another in slightly lesser condition, so no real regrets about selling it.
After selling those last two I basically ended up with the 2 other guns in the 4-gun deal for free. Hard to feel much regret about that.
