Can someone help me confirm what this is? The serial number is 262xxx 38 Spl. 4 inch barrel. I read this to be a Mdl 1905 4th change square butt, made in the early 20's.

Is that correct?

I believe that's exactly what it is.
I have 284xxx and it was shipped in June, 1918. Yours could be a bit earlier, but S&W did not ship in serial number order so that's just a guess.
Nahas and Supica's Standard Catalog of S&W says that the 4th model began at serial# 241704.
