Idiots at the range

He didn't say they just checked the idiots. He said "DFG and ATF agents were dong a firearms check on everyones guns..."

So, there you are at the range. Joe Good-citizen. Cop comes up and wants to see your ID, and check your guns to see they are not illegal and are not stolen, and you don't have a problem with that? It was okay to violate the gangster's rights because they were criminals. How about everyone else at the range, whose rights were also violated? That's okay?

Once again you are on public land. If you are walking on the street and a cop pulls up and wants to see you ID to find out who you are, you have to show it to him. He has the full right to run your background. If you are a Felon, you have no rights to begin with. If your not a felon and your not wanted, its a simple goodbye. If you are on private property that is when they need a warrent.

Back in the early 70s a old friend of mine brought two younger guys to my house and wanted to go shooting. One was the guy who played carmine on lavern and shirley, eddie mekka. Belive he was related to my friend. I later had to watch the show to find out who he was. Anyway we all went out shooting. It was the first time the two had ever shot. At one point eddie turned around with my winchester model 62 and the muzzel was a couple inchs from my gut. Pete bellered at him and we proceeded to have a lesson on gun handeling. Eddie and his buddy oscar were great guys and funny. They learned quick and we all had a good day.

Alpo, havent you ever been checked by a warden when hunting? They check for multible things like correct ammo, however I never seen them run the serial # but likely they will if you are busted on some major violations.

YES, that's OK - I do not see a problem.
I've been checked out by cops, troopers, and TWRA (TN game wardens) and have NEVER had a problem with them checking.
Kinda like getting mad when you're fishing because a *cop* asks to see your fishing license and you don't have one.
If you shouldn't be doing something - DON'T DO IT --- DUHHHH

Also - No one's rights were violated in the OP that I can see. The *idiots* shouldn't have been out shooting in the first place - In Fact - Most probably shouldn't have been in possession of a gun (or ammo for that matter) and most likely everyone of them knew better.

A LEO has the "Right" to do what? I looked in the Constitution, and didn't see this "right" listed.

Also, I must have missed the memo about The Fourth Amendment (Amendment IV) to the United States Constitution being repealed. Maybe it was only in California.

After selling my 5905 to pay for our honeymoon, I shot only my 686, and my Ruger Mark II. About 10 years later I bought a Springfield 40xd and went to the local indoor range. After firing a while I switched hands to fire right handed, and without thinking had my left thumb extended to "recock" forgetting I wasn't shooting a revolver. Just plain dumbness on my part! Anyway it went like this "BANG" - "****!" -bleed. I quickly wrapped some TP from the bathroom on my thumb (it was right behind me), and I walked upstairs to the desk and the guy handed me a roll of paper towels without looking up. I rewrapped my hand, cleaned up my blood, and was told "no charge but tell us how many stitches". Ended up with 4, and a few "pieces of friendly advice" the next time I went to the range with "shoot the semi-auto first, then the revolver second" being the best..

Wrong. You are not required to show ID just because the LEO "wants to see you ID to find out who you are." And he does NOT have "the right" to run your background. There is no such "right". And you cannot be compelled to show ID "just because".

Next time an LEO stops you, you tell him drop dead and keep walking, then!

I'll stop, show him my ID and chat a while!

This is going into fantasy land!

The you are detained for failure to ID. There are so many loop hole its not funny. You can thank the political party whos masccott is a (-$$) donkey for those. If you fail to ID it gives the officer the right to perform a search and find out who you are. When you are given an ID or your DL you sign a paper stating if an officer asked to see your ID you have to show them your GOVERMENT ISSUED ID. Befoire you go challanging the laws and reciting the Constitution it helps to know the law, the Constitution and ALL the ammendments. not just the ones written 300 years ago. this also applies the statment M1GUNNER made. Also in case you have not noticed over the past few hundred years, Cops do what ever they want, legal or not. The cop is not the court. Their job is to get you to jail not matter what. then the coutrs job is to make a reasoinable case you are guilty. its your lawyers job to prove there is no way in hell that you could have done anything. Thats why they never charge you with only one crime. Its alway 2 or three, or more. the more charges the better chance they have at putting you in jail and tasking away what right you think you have. Remember the saying, "to serve and protect"? Its actually, to serve them selves and protect eachother, it has nothing to do with the public.

Nobody's rights were violated. I have no problem with a cop checking my firearms and I.D. That's how criminals and clowns like those on the range are caught. It's not OK to violate anyone's rights, gangsters or not. "Joe Good-citizen" cooperates with law enforcement while protecting himself from self incrimination. I have no problem with DWI checkpoints, either.

I agree - let's get back to "range accidents". I must admit I've learned a lot over the years by reading other stories. It taught me what to look for, and how to act if I saw something happen.

I used to yell "Hey idiot! Stop doing that - you moron!". Now it is "Careful! (Explain what the guy/gal did to upset me or what I saw that needed correct and how I would correct it)", then watch to see if they listened. Same has happened to me - a guy came up to my lane one day and said "your patterns could be better if you....". He spent about 30 minutes explaining and I learned a lot!

I've made a few friends this way by being nice and courtious, and have also prevented a few from repeating something after I saw it in front of someone less nice about it.

The best thing for pro-gun and shooting folks is niceness. Being mean and yelling with out calm explaination afterward only gives the anti-gun people fuel for their fire.

I did not know that shooting folks was something good. LOL
I have seen to many dumb things at shooting ranges to count. From the looks of it so has many of others. It woulkd seem the worst things that happen is not from peole that don't know what they are doing, these people usally are extra carefull. It would seem they are from folks that know to much and think carefull is for the weak. This is not always the case but it still does happen, unfortunetly.
Celticsire: I read some of your other posts because you show a shield next to your name and US Army . This really bothers me in some of the things you say in this thread as well as some of your other posts. For some reason the two just don't add up. If you are true to your words, I think you need to choose them a little more careful. If not be careful.

Shooot, back off subject again.

What do you mean off subject? this was an earlier post with a couple of drunk idiots using a Judge .410 at a private range. Read page 2, I believe, maybe page 3. Just keep the shine at for afterwards. LMAO

JUst got back from the range. Several lanes over there was 3 people - 2 guys and a gal, all 10-21. He was firing, she was watching, and he was reloading mags - all within a foot and a half of each other.

And they was wondering why they was all getting hit by flying cases and bumping into one another.

HA! was she wearing a low cut shirt as well? gett'n them tootoos some little burn marks on'em
