Idiots at the range

I stopped by the club on my way home from work today. I had to deliver an armload of cardboard backers I had cut down at work. I put the backers away and take a look past the line and down range on the indoor. The floor is littered with wooden splinters and shavings from the overhead baffle at the 40' mark. Also the wooden planking at the foot of the traps in front of the sand bed was plowed up pretty badly also.

Several somebodies must have fired at least a box or two into the rafters. How hard is it to keep your rounds going into a 6' tall steel backstop? I guess it's time to review the video system we installed last summer. This is a private club by the way not open to the public.

We have a policy of paper targets, with few exceptions. So what do I find in the indoor range trash, but shot up soda cans. Well back to the video again I guess.

Sounds like the same crew that's been visiting my club lately..

She had a high top t-shirt on if I remember correctly.

I was there to shoot, not look at some kid.

Sounds to me like someone was trying to practice their rapid firing and got a little out of control. There were three Marines a couple of months ago at my local range and they were all over the place too. I finally said "enough is enough" and educated them on how to use the exit without the guns they came in with. They caused several hundred dollars in damage. The range officer said he would not have taken that approach but was glad someone did. They just love me down there, to bad they won't hire me.

When using the local indoor ranges here, I always go as early as possible and try to get an end lane. Figure that cuts the chance of idiots right next to me by 50%. The other "early birds" are usually more experienced and safety conscious shooters, so generally it is a happy experience. Yes, the range has holes in places I find odd..(to say the least) and the target hangers are constantly being repaired/replaced, but I usually miss most of that actually happening. Occasionally, there will be the stray "cowboys",
"hee-haws" or "wannabees" there early on a Saturday. They start by loading up mags @ the table behind the line with the BIG sign that says:" Do Not Load Magazines Here". Then from the firing line will be the "BOOM...BOOM...BOOM"......"giggle, giggle, guffaw..yeehaw..That was AWESOME, but my hand hurts, man" from the Desert Eagle or other hand-cannons they set off. Fortunately, the ammo is expensive and pain-inducing enough that it only lasts for one box. I guess it boils down to "situational awareness" and being observant and cautious of those around you who may not seem to have mastered the cardinal rules of gun safety and reacting accordingly.

LOL thats great!! You would not think you would have the pain-inducing factor from thee butt end of a gun, but there ya go. There are those .500's and .460's to rent at the rang I go to also. They sell the rounds by the bullet $4 each. When I saw those when they came out, not that long ago, I had to fire it a few times. I am good with all revolvers and can shoot a fly in the eye at pretty much any distance with one at an indoor range. I can see having a .44 mag. in my collection if I were hunting in bear country or for bison or something of that nature. As far as those .454's, .460's and .500's I just cant see any practical reason for a range to even have them for rent, esspesially and indoor range. They are just too powerful and if one gets loose it produces more of a threat than any other gun including a .44 mag. That powerful of a rounf can easlily pass throu one of those "bullet proof" barriers and do someone some real serious harm if not kill them. I would like a desert eagle though. I have shot them many of times and in the right hands they can be very effective. In the wanna be cowboys hands they are just flipp'n dangerous. When Marines and other active military guys come into a range with their buddies its like they have something to prove. None of them have seen a 50 cal handgun in the service. the only 50 cal they see are attached to an M1A1 or A2 or a truck. alto of them thing they are the same thing. Surprise!!!

Im one of those who could hit the range with 1000 rounds of full house 44 mag and make a long loud day of it ... and used to ... and still would if it werent for some modicum of courtesy on my part. Ill sling enough lead out of my 629 to keep current with the old girl and transition to a kinder gentler piece as Im now firing at an indoor range.
