IDPA BoD announced the change from the current 0.5 second penalty per point down to 1 second per point down. No hard timetable for implementation.

I've got mixed opinions on this, while I understand the rationale, and mathematical simplicity( for some); it's the timing that bothers me. Idpa just went through a highly touted rules change that was more hype than anything else. Real question is what is driving yet another change?

Having been an IDPA certified RSO, 5 gun shooter and having instructed in several "Intro To IDPA" classes I've dropped my membership a year ago and just shoot for chuckles in club matches.
Too many arbitrary rule changes.
This is not what IDPA was when I joined several years ago.

Just another goofy rule change from Arkansas. IDPA would be much better off if the founders stepped away. Too many clubs shoot IDPA-like matches and skip the formalities.

That said....I agree with the change. The current half second encourages fast missing which surely isn't tactical unless scaring BGs with whizzing sounds makes them throw down their iron/plastic.

The change from the 2013 "flat footed reload" to the 2015 reload rules is hardly "hype". That was a significant re-write of a rule that made absolutely no sense to anybody I've ever talked to. The 2015 reload rules have their own issues but at least they are a step in the right direction.

Sure changing the ffr was a good move, but it took the tiger teams how long to do it? The language used in many other adjustments wasn't clear making some of the changes less than ideal.

How they announced the consolidation of SSR & ESR into a single revolver division is an example- they announced ESR was being eliminated- which caused many to be upset.

Changing the BUG status for revolvers caused all the j frame guns to no longer be competitive.

All that being said, I still enjoy IDPA & I go to multiple matches each month. They stated they would hold off on add'l changes for 2 years, but that apparently isn't the case. If you keep tweaking the rules, there will be no consistency in the rules and local "tribal" rules will be the norm. That is not good for the sport.

Just surprised the TTs didn't make this change at the same time.

I agree. To release a major rules update, that is still not completely understood by many, and then announce an even more fundamental revision within a year...
It will be interesting to see how this works out.

I don't see this as any big deal, other than breaking the no new rules pledge.

It's fun, but I'm about ready to move on to USPSA or something else,. IDPA revolver rules are stupid.

It is obvious that they consider the revolver class shooters way down on the food chain. Unless of course you are Expert or Master and just how many of the members hold that classification?

What irks me the most is that the opinion of only 3 shooters were consulted to bring this about. That's fair, isn't it?

The average IDPA shooter who shoots 2 matches a month at the club level and at least 1 sanctioned match a year is said to be between 51 and 59 years old. And is classified as SS or MM.

So, shooters in these categories, have to work harder due to age, eyesight and slower reflexes. It's not within everyone's capability to become Expert or Master in the game.

So when shooters get discouraged and quit showing up for the matches, what then.

In my opinion this is just the "entitled" few making the rules.

I know a few shooters who will suffer in the standings as a result of this. The fast gamers will always be near the top.

I shoot because I love the sport. Not the political **** that gets shoveled onto everyone's feet.

jtcarm: I wish I could have given you more than one "Like". You voiced the exact reason I left IDPA years ago. IMHO, a bunch of 'control freaks' got control of the rule making and just sit around and muse between themselves as to just who they could screw with next. I left and with two other 'Gunnies' started a common sense Three Gun Match at my local outdoor range which is still in operation today. And my version of 'Three Gun' has been picked up and initiated at other ranges in So. Nevada whereas IDPA has dwindled down to just one Club Range hanging on. ...........
