If you could be any fictional Western character ...

Quigley would probably be my first choice...but since he's already been picked...

I'm kinda surprised nobody has mentioned Bat Masterson. I suppose that's because he was a real person...but since I'm basing my thoughts on Gene Barry's portrayal from the old series, I believe that would qualify as "fictional".

My mind immediately went to (Gene Barry's) Bat Masterson, as he was always perfectly dressed, always seemed to have money, did very well with the ladies...in short, he just plain knew how to "live well"! Of course he was good with his gun, and I liked his fighting skills with his walking stick/cane.

If Bat is deemed "not-fictional"...then I guess I'd go with Trinity. Yeah, he's often dirty and nasty...but he cleans up well, does well with the women, has unbelievable card-handling skills, and is wicked with his gun/fists/or feet. Plus, he's hilarious...and he has a huge bear of a brother, who's pretty darn funny too.

Luther "Yellowstone" Kelley was the real deal. Clint Walker played him in the 1959 movie, "Yellowstone Kelley". They even looked somewhat alike. I have the book of his biography and its great.
Luther Kelly - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Kelley got in the tail end of the civil war and lied about his age to do it. The army sent him west and he loved it and stayed. In some areas his story reminded me of "Dancing with wolves".
If you want to research a western hero type that sounds like the real deal, I dont think you could do any better than checking him out starting with the book on him.

But if you were a fictional character you would have never existed........

A little existentialism on a Sunday afternoon just to keep y'all on your toes :D

I could be both sides............

Val Kilmer's Doc Holliday would be OK. Another that hasn't been mentioned would be Ricky Nelson's character in Rio Bravo, or on second thought....Kurt Russell's Wyatt Earp, as long as I end up with Dana Delaney in the end.

I guess being Clint Eastwood's Man With No Name is the safest because he was guaranteed and taken for granted to always live, even though he got beat up a lot. Even John Wayne got killed sometimes. Personally, I'd like to be the guy who ended up with the longest expanse of time between birth and death on his headstone and who died wearing socks.
