If you could only have one pistol??

Most will think I'm nuts but mine would be my Colt Cobra. Good for home defense and easy to carry if need be.

I don't think you're nuts. My pick would be a 3" 60-15 in .357, only because if anything happened to my Cobra, it's too hard to find someone qualified to fix it. The 60 can fill all the roles I need a handgun to fill, even though it's not my favorite at any of them.
And as a bonus, it's a pretty safe bet that whoever decided I can only have one pistol already made sure I can't have more than 5 rds in it!

As bmcgilvray pointed out, revolvers were originally called "revolving pistols"-- to distinguish them from single shot muzzleloading pistols, which were simply knows as "pistols". If I picked from the pistols/revolvers I currently have, I'd have to go with the second pistol I ever purchased and one I still own: a 6" 686-1. Reliable as the day is long, accurate, versitile because it will handle .38 wadcutters through hot .357 mags. My 6" 686 is the replacement for a 4" 686 that was stolen from our house 25 years ago. I have a 25 year history with that 6" so I guess I'm just familiar with it and have confidence in it.

I've found the 6" works well as a house gun, a holstered sidearm around our property, and for hunting. Yes, CCW is difficult and a 4" RB K frame, a J frame, or even a 1911 is handier to carry, but I am more concerned about protection around the house or property than I am about the street. Plus I don't think I'll ever have to worry about a "cylinder capacity limit" and having to get a cylinder with two charge holes permanently blocked off to reduce capacity to 4 !!

A close second choice- or if I would buy a pistol specifically as an only handgun-- is a 4" K or L frame .357. The same positives and it's just easier to carry

I thought that out many years ago and made a decision that has not changed. My model 58. The 41 Magnum M&P. In Armaloy finish mine should last for a millenium or so. Smooth as glass very accurate and capable of being loaded from very mild to kill anything that walks with relative ease.

I'll take a different tack. My dads .357 Ruger Flat Top. It was an anniversary gift from mom, bought factory direct on a dept letter and shipped to the PD without dad's knowledge with the help of the chief. It was also the first firearm I ever fired, on my 8th birthday.

Of my wheel guns my two favorite all around shooting sticks are my 4" 28-2 and my 686 4" both loaded with 357 rnds. If I can only have one it would be the n frame 28-2 H/P I think.

Mr. OP, one shotgun and one rifle too? War? bad poker game? What brought us to this unrealistic state? I guess my final choice is the twin gun to Charleton Heston has in his hand. Same rules....

Walkbyfaith,

It came that way new. PT-92AFS is the model #. They are still made today, I have owned mine a very long time, I bought this one back when no one had ever heard of Taurus. They had just bought the old Beretta factory and this was one of thier 1st runs of this model. Wish I would have bought several!

M&P 40c because it's the in-between gun. The .40SW nears the punch of a .45ACP and the firepower of the 9mm. The compact is more concealable than the full size and has more ammo capacity than the shield.

My 92FS for sure. It's been nothing but a reliable tac driver. Plus, I have 9 15 round mags for her. ;)

Prob be a 9mm of any kind. Prefer a Glock,or a M&P. My reason If I had to up and leave the good ole US of A. You can find 9mm ANYWHERE in the world. 40 44 mag 45acp are nice and my current EDC is a M&P 40c. But 9mm is the way to go for me.

If i needed ammo I could prob barter with a 3rd world cop or Army guy for a box of ammo and it would be 9mm. Heck prob barter for a 9mm pistol and that would prob be a glock.
9mm 5.56mm all the NATO rounds are what your gonna find out there

thanks

Oh yeah...hmmmm, might be my brand new OD green G19. Only have 60 through now but wow. Love.

Love my 19, best compact 9mm on the market IMO. Add a ghost trigger and a set of TFO sights and it's top notch. Good choice.

I'm a n00b...so I like listening to those that have forgotten more about guns than I'll ever know and reading the post/thread, but if I had to choose...I'd go with my FS 9. Eight 17 rd mags should do the trick if the SHTF.

Well since this was posted in the M&P section and you used the word "pistol" I'd say it's the only M&P I own-the 9C. It's the only one I own because as my gun funds are limited this is the model I narrowed down to in my search.

Now playing nice like everyone else that if I was limited to only one pistol it would be my current custom Caspian 1911-to be fair I started shooting pistols with a 1911 almost 45 years ago (I was 12 at the time).

If I was limited to one handgun it'd probably be my 686, no dash I inherited from my late father upon his passing in 1992. He bought it new, it's got an amazing action, versatile with both .38s & .357s.

I'm a literal kind of guy so hope you don't mind my answering so lol.
