If you could only have one!

My PC 627 UDR.

I wanted one long enough... finally got it. Personal protection or plinking, it's appropriate/fun. A bit much to CC, however.

Ultimately, I bought two... since they are now similarly gripped, one could think they were seeing double...

I wouldn't cheat... and keep 'em both... no, not me!

Of course, if the reason for the 'one only' was ammo cost, I'd keep a .22 rimfire. I know some say they can reload .38's for what a .22 rimfire costs, but I do believe they are being disingenuous. At current prices, ~$30/1k, primers alone cost more than the least expensive brick ammo at WallyWorld ($16/550). Of course, you need more than primers, so I'd likely consider a rimfire - like my 4" 617, especially if range use was the main consideration. My 3" 63 would be decent, too - probably could be CC-ed, as well. My recent find, a 4" 651 (.22 WMR), might work with .22 LR's as is - I haven't tried them - or have an older x6 63 cylinder fitted as a choice. The added power of the new short-barrel .22 WMR ammo, like the Hornady FTX 45gr-ers, would be comforting.

I hate these one only choices. I CC because it may save my life - or my wife's. I plink because it's fun. Then, what if I had to feed myself? The prospect of becoming a vegan isn't exactly mouth watering!

Pretty hard choice, but I think it would have to be my 4" 686 for its overall versatility...
  • Size - Large enough to be accurate at distance, small enough to carry concealed.
  • Ammo - .38 special or .357 Magnum. Abundant supply and adequate stopping power.
  • Stainless Steel - Low maintenance for all environments

And of course...
  • Best Looking Revolver Made - If you can only have one, then you might as well be Stylin' and Profilin'!!! :D

What he said. Plus, a 4" .357 meets most state's handgun hunting requirements. Admittedly, my 686 4" is not my favorite handgun, but it would probably be one of the last to go considering it's versatility.

My first S&W was a 14-3. It is nothing good to look at(been through heck and back), but I sure wouldn't want to be lookin' down the wrong end of its barrel. Most natural shooting gun I have, and the one I have the most confidence in. Fits my hand like a glove. I could go back to the days when it was my only revolver...

One of these two... Probably the 640-1, but depending on the situation maybe the 65-3 3".

I will go with my 6" 686-3. I'm large enough to put her in a shoulder holster and conceal comfortably. Accuracy, range, and power. For me the perfect package. If it were'nt I'd have bought something different in the last 22 years. "Merry Christmas to all"

It's a no brainier for me, 66 2 1/2". I didn't even have to think about it,versatile ammo choices, concealable, and for me one of the best looking revolvers ever made. YMMV

So close

I agree with you on all the above! Just one reason why I will keep my 681...I can not loose my rear sight or break it.

My one revolver would be my 5 inch 629 DX. A bit heavy for CCW but a jack of all trades properly loaded.

The very last to go would be my S&W model 60 38SPL. But I sure would miss my S&W model 34 4" .22RF. Both are great!!!

Looks like nobody is going to mention the most famous S&W of all time! It's the best CC weapon. It's the best hunting gun. It's the best target shooter. It's the.....CTG!!!!!!!!
Peace,
Gordon

The 681 is definitely on my short list for future purchases!!

..a Mountain Gun... .41, .44 or .45 ACP....

Depending on my "circumstances" I would probably lean towrd the .45 ACP. One can find ammo everywhere, recoil is light, one can also fire .45 Super for hunting...

Probably one of these 2 with the Mtn Gun being much more versatile.
A 4" 629-4 or 629 Mtn Gun would have to be a top pick as well.

If I could have only one revolver,it would mean the 'SHTF' and that the USA was in trouble. I would not be worried about concealed carry wouldnt be allowed,it would be a matter of which revolver can I shoot the best, will last the longest,be able to hunt 4 and 2 legged creatures at a good distance. My 29-2 with 8 3/8'' bbl would be going with me,its almost a small rifle.Just my thoughts on the subject......Merry Christmas

dumb question. I cannot give up enough to get down to one. Its inconceivable.
