one smith for me? never happen while on top of the dirt.

Touch decision to make on this one.

So none of my boys feel left out, I'll just pick all three: 29, 686, and 617.

They all get her done.

Well, I I could own only one, it would probably be my Model 29-2 .44 magnum Blued 4". You can load it up or load it down (.44 special).

Crap , we've done this thread to death. It's not possible to pick one.

I have 10 that will be buried with me when I go. 'kidding'

N frame ,45 Colt ctg. mod. 25-5 ,25-7 4in. or 5in. My current favorite.

Only one revolver ??

For me it would be my model 48 with 6" barrel and aux. 22lr cylinder.
But of course let's hope it never comes to that.

Smith & Wesson Schofield, factory engraved, ivory grips. I don't have one, but if I was limited to just one S&W, that is what I would want.

I would be very unhappy!

Would probably be my 6" 686, as it is one of the most versatile revolvers made by S&W. From mild plinking/target work to full house magnum it handles it all.

azwheelgun....I have only been in the forum since April, but I think this is the first time anyone has mentioned the 586/686 with the 8 3/8? I have one and it is far away my favorite shooter in 357 mag, even over my 27-2's in 5" and 8 3/8". However, I remain fixed in the opinion that a 4" K or L frame 357 is the best all around weapon if one were the only option. Again, the reasoning being availability of ammo, range of power, and concealablity. This from a man with 9 model 29/629's. Go figure.

RABULL- I agree with your view on the 29-2 4". I purchase a new one in 1973, carried it on duty until 1978 until rules and regulatons required all on my department to carry the same weapon..... a department issued 66 4". After carrying it for 10 years using the Remington 125 grain JHP (we chronographed it at 1425 fps out the 4"), I would have to say that due to the somewhat lighter weight and compact size, yet serious performance, I would have to make my 29 the second choice, if only one gun was the option. I was able to purchase my original issued 66 from the department ($125) when we again changed and went to Glock 40's. My 66 is my house piece...being my wife's favorite also.
