If You Could Only Own One... What Would You Choose?

If I could have only 1 S&W revolver it would no doubt be my model 19 4 inch. If I could only have one handgun? I've played this game a thousand times sittin' in deer blinds all across northern Michigan. The answer is always the same. Of the 50 or so hand guns I own there is one that is tops....
Sorry gang....

Cemoto;
I'm right there with you. I could narrow my collection down to three: one of my 3" M65's; one of my 1911's and my BHP. If I had to narrow down further I think I'd be forced to quit playing the game!

What would some of you experts suggest to others if they could only own one?

If I could only have one, I would keep the first one I owned.
SW Model 10-5 Nickel. It will do everything I need it to do and there is never a doubt that it's always going to work. This is the one:

Not long ago my choice would be to keep the 686 no dash my wife has taken over. Now if the wife left with the 686 I would keep the 625 SAC.

What a cruel game.

For the horrific one gun choice in a world gone topsy turvy - for car/home/personal protection - and solely for it's wide ammo range - I'd likely keep my, gasp, Governor!

For the 20k+ rounds of fun .22 rimfire I have, and accepting it's stopping potential, I'd consider my fun plinker - my 3" 63.

Accepting that it will be difficult - even on someone volumetrically challenged as I am - to CC - my 4" 64-8 is a fun plinker with my supply of .38 125gr JHP homebrews and sufficient protector commercially made +P 158gr LHPSWC ammo, both of which are essentially coincident POA/POI hitters from 5-20yd with it's fixed sights.

If it's purely nostalgic considerations, my first-ever S&W - a 625-7 MG in .45 Colt my wife shocked me with - along with my stash of homebrew ammo - would get the nod.

If it was a house fire/tornado/attack, I could quickly grab a 'bug out bag' with copies of house/personal documents, knife, water purification, flashlight & batteries, and a 2 5/8" PC627 UDR with +P 158gr LHPSWC on moonclips. That is a delightful revolver - fun, too!

That Governor became a real choice after perusing several big discount stores for ammo - no .22/.32/.380/.38/.357/.44 anything. All had .40 - no help here - and .45 ACP & Colt!

Happy New Year!

Since I deer hunt with a revolver it would have to be my 629 DX with 5 inch Bbl. (Ohio requires a minimum of 5 inches)

As a lover of S&W blued steel and owner of most calibers from .22lr to .45 Colt, I do enjoy making large holes in what I shoot at. So, having to choose only one, it would be my 25-5 4". I guess my 29 4" would have to be my second choice.

I'd probably pick my 625JM. It can do everything, home SD, carry SD, hunting, target shooting. Not the best at all of those things, but very versatile.

I'm in Canada, so ..........

....... no hunting with handguns. Firearms are not made for self-defense (not me but the Gubmnt says so) and there is no CCW (Well, on the books, there is, but only 14 people in the whole Country have CCW permits. Here they're called ATC. Authorization to Carry.)
Any way it would have to be my 617 10-rounds cylinder, 6" barrel

I would have said my 586 in .357 mag, but .22 is so much less expensive.

Happy New Year

If you can find .22 shells. I happen to have several thousand rounds of .22LR that were in my deceased father-in-law's gun cabinet, along with his guns. (a .22 rifle, LC Smith double barrel 16g shotgun, his Colt .45 auto ARMY that he carried as a Navigator on a B-17, a Ruger Blackhawk .357, a Ruger Single Six, and an 1800s Flobert Parlor Pistol) One drawer of the cabinet was crammed with .22 shells. Literally, thousands. Wonder what I could get for them? Mostly LR but a bunch of magnums, too.

Only one ? Hmmmmm -then i would have to go with a self-defense gun. It would be my 30 round 12 gauge.
