I recently came accross two older Smiths and can not decide on which one to get. I appreciate everyone's information on my previous threads. Here are my options:

1. Pre model 14 Target Masterpiece 6" from 1957 very good condition, I would rate it around 90 to 95%, non original target grips.
4 screw. I can get for around $440 out the door.

2. Pre model 10 2" from 1948 good condition, I would rate it at around 85% 5 screw with original grips. $550 out the door.

Since purchasing a Pre 15 5 screw I have developed a fondness for these timeless works of art. So, which would you choose? Thanks in advance.

I would go with the pre 14. It is priced right, and in better condition. The pre 10 is over priced and in lesser condition. Plus the pre 14s are a pleasure to shoot.

Do we see a pattern developing here. I'd go for the pre 14 too

Depends on the serial number of the M&P. If its between S990xxx and C1 and has a short action, I'd take the M&P.

The K-38 Masterpiece is a MUST HAVE in your collection, my first choice. But of course so is a 2" K- frame. Ah, the addiction starts with not being able to choose just one. Try to get a package deal and buy both. Greg

I would do that, but unfortunately, they are at two different shops.

I think the pre 14 K-38 is the way to go (based on the feedback). Thank you for everyone's input.

For me, it's a choice of logic or passion

No question: objectively the target gun is the better deal, and if you are planning on plinking or target shooting, the right choice. On the other hand, I've rarely met a 2" M&P that doesn't want to climb into my safe.

Michael! Good to see you Amigo! There's probably not much room in your safe for anything other than a 2" snub anyway! :)

However, my logical self has won out in this conversation and I vote "Masterpiece".....

OP needs to check on this.
It would be a very rare bird, since none of us have ever seen one.

I'd go with the pre 14 unless it turns out to be that rare bird no has ever seen.

The K-38 Masterpiece ("pre-14" - cringe) wins hands-down, without any hesitation. The M&P is, IMHO, overpriced, and the K-38 is such a sweet gun to shoot you'll kick yourself repeatedly for not buying it if you ever shoot another. 2" Ks are quite nice, but that K-38 will have you dreaming of shooting it again and again.
