Pearls is one of my favorite comics! I remember that story line but it went right over my head...thanks for the clue in!
There has been speculation in the past that Frazz is a "grown up" Calvin.

I can understand....

I can understand Watterson not liking the extremely puny newspaper format, but his books are GREAT!

The first time I read C&H I thought it was stupid. A kid and his Tiger? Then one day I got it, Hobbes was a stuffed animal! That strip was a downpour of imagination and became my favorite. I think it even surpassed 'Peanuts' in originality. Even beyond 'Bloom County', 'Andy Capp', 'Hagar the Horrible', 'The Wizard of Id', 'BC' and 'Dilbert' and a whole bunch more.

I liked the concept of "Calvinball", the only rule is that you can't change the same rule two times in a row. My kind of game.
