If you like WWII aircraft, you'll love this...

BIGBILL--for me it is the sound made by those big ol pistons. No other sound ever heard is the same.
They are sounds of ancient war drums.
Blessings

Thanks for the post, it brought back memories of a Prop from a F4U that surrounded the fireplace in the rec room of the house I grew up in. My dad flew one in the Marine Corps during WWII and somehow snagged one and then built the rec room around the prob (no short ceilings in that house:D). Unfortunately I never got the chance to bid on that house. My mom died when I was 16, Dad remarried while I was in the Army and he and his new wife quickly had difficulties about his idea of rec room tastefulness. Ended up getting a divorce, selling the house, he would never talk about where the prob went. Still it was good memories for a 13 year old learning to play pool underneath that massive prop.

Very nice.
Oh all the planes that touched the flight line at DaNang,(and I liked them all), the one that would make me wish I was a pilot was the lowly A1E Skyraider (Sandy). It just sounded angry as if someone insulted it and I felt sorry for whoever did.

I like to think it sired the A10.

I've been a private pilot for 30 yrs. Bought my Cessna,.... then learned to fly in it. She is still with me today. My son and I fly to the various War Bird dawn patrols and this past fall we went to one in Dowagiac Michigan. They had a P51 D Mustang and an F4U Corsair. First time in all my years that I saw a Corsair fly. We talked to the pilot for a few minutes before he took off and I stood right out next to the runway. He smiled and gave me a "wait a second" motion. Took off climbed up to about 300 feet,....did a 180 and came right back down the runway at about 40 feet,.... and opened it up! Most everyone ducked as he went by....My son, standing right next to me (we both stayed straight up) go the video. Wish I could post it...not sure how to do that. But...damn! Just the thought of that thing bearing down on you with six 50 cal.s
