I just ordered one this week. A 10 shot 617 as well as a 5" 460V. I can't wait for them to arrive to keep my 610 company.

I bought a Mdoel 617 no dash last year and I love it.

How are the new 10 shot 617's? I know they have a Steel cylinder now. I was thinking of buying one and then sending it to S&W for an action job and getting some nice grips for her... Any imput would be great!

I just found mine on Gunbroker last week. 617-2 with the Stainless cylinder. Looked long and hard for a pre-lock 617 as I am anal about somebody drilling a hole in the side of a perfectly good gun! Best $600 I ever spent

Also, one other odd ball question? Could they ever fit a .22 Magnum cylinder to the gun? Could be expensive from what I have heard, but would be kind of neat I guess. Looking for some imput for some Board regulars. All my years collecting Smiths and I just joined this board! I love it!

I've heard of a few problems with the newer 617's across the internet gun forums. Just hearsay I guess but I intentionally waited until a six shot came my way. I've handled both and the earlier 617's seem better built.

And you probably won't need a trigger job on an older 617. Might save some money by buying an older one. If you can find one.

But that's just me.
