If you saw someone wearing this...

This looks good, what is the make/model? I think I'll order one.

...would you assume they were carrying or just a tacky dressed tourist?

Bekeart, back in '91, I used to carry in a hot pink fanny pack. Took it in some pretty anti places, and I don't think anyone ever made me. ;)

I'll bet they "made" you as something else, though!

I definitely think "gun" - especially in the bottom picture. :p

I only wear my pink fanny pack when I'm wearing pink shoes.Fashion is so important to me.

We own two of those fanny packs, one made just for a handgun and the other is a universal. As sombody mentioned sometimes it is necessary to have protection along and it is just very convienient to carry like that.
As for signaling the BG. If he is that good , you may be surprised.
I read an article lately (forgot where ) but in the article a couple guys sat in the mall watching the people going past. They were pretty adept at identifying who was carrying. One of them stated, he , on many occasions could identify the model gun the person was concealing. After reading that story, I began looking to see if I could tell if somebody was concealing.
Sure enough, a short while back I was in wal mart buying a gallon of paint ,when an older man was approaching he had on a T shirt shorts and sandels, I watched form the perifery of my line of sight and sure enough as he turned at the end of the isle , his arm swung and there it was a semi auto right on his side , perfectly printing...

Also , one can begin by noticing the persons demeanor and /or how they carry themselvs and their attitude. From that starting point an observant student can begin to put together a profile. You can become astute at sniffing out thugs, gangsters, jailbirds, even LEO,s will broadcast if you know what to watch for.

Last summer I was in Northhampton, MA, probably one of the most liberal freaky towns on the face of the earth. It is like Provincetown west. I saw a middle aged guy with his wife walking down the street and he was wearing shorts and a jersey and a black fanny pack. I instantly assumed he had a gun. If he did, I don't think he alerted any of the interesting characters around him at all. If he did they would have totally freaked out. I think those of us that carry are the only ones who notice the fanny pack, we pay attention to our surroundings.

Good point Greg.
Since folks that carry visit shooting supply stores, most have seen the , 'made for carry' fanny packs. I have, and there is a difference between those and the generic type.

I think they have their usefullness. Although, like most things in life, it is up to the discretion of the owner to decide when and where.
If one is to wear it they need to be extra cautious. A determined criminal could/would have an easier time taking the whole package from the non attentive wearer.

Fanny packs are a dead give away that you are carrying a firearm. If a bad guy gets a jump on you, he is going to take your loaded firearm as well as your personel effects with him and hopefully thats all he takes.

This is probably going to offend some people but fanny packs are just plain silly looking. When I see a person with a fanny pack I either think one of 3 things:

1. The person is carrying a gun
2. Its a person that just has no sense of fashion
3. The individual is mentally challenged

Typically most the people I see with fanny packs do fall within this category. I did not say the mentally challenged to be rude or poke fun of anyone. A lot of autistic children and adults I have noticed have these to carry a lot of their personal items around such as gameboys and such......in this case, I think its a great idea, anything to make their life and their caretakers life easier is a good thing. I do not think fanny packs are a god way of toting a gun, and as most people on this thread have said, its because its completely obvious. Yes, fanny packs might be handy and easy but they just look ridiculous. Here is a much better option, get a nice backpack from Blackhawk or some other reputable company. You'll have 10X the storage space and look much cooler.

I think it was the hot pants and stockings more than the pink fanny pack.

I'm a carry it in the pocket guy-always have been.
When it's cold enough to wear a coat (rare) it's in the coat pocket. I especially like the hand warmer pocket style like the ones that come with the "hoodies".
There ain't nothing more menacing that an over 50's guy in a hoody wearing bi focal sunglasses-with his hands in the pockets and a big "leave me the F alone look on his face"
( it also gets you waited on faster)
