If you saw someone wearing this...

I might think gun, but I carry a pansy pack and its full of other daily essentials and medications.

Never a gun.

I have found I need to carry so many other things including meds that I don't have room for a gun in a small pansy pack.

I think alot of it has to do with where you are at the time. I have one that I use when hiking. If you're also wearing a T-shirt, shorts and hiking boots, nobody thinks twice about a fanny pack. Especially if you hang a water bottle on the off side. No one would suspect that there's a big bore N-frame inside.
However, if you're wearing one in the middle of town..........

The size, the zippers that go around the outside and the string you pull to open it, are tip offs to gun people.

The non gun bags are usually half the size, don't have the string or complete zipper.

As already mentioned non gun people usually don't notice stuff anyway.

If you feel comfortable with that style holster, go for it.

...would you assume they were carrying or just a tacky dressed tourist?

I see the "fashion police" are at it again.............who cares if you carry in a "pack" or any other way. What's important is that if you need your gun, you have it with you.

Don

If I saw someone wearing something like that, I would be polite and stiffle my urge to snicker audibly.

Ok guess I need to elaborate a bit

Never intended to wear it myself. Looking for something for the wife for trail carry, camping, vacation, and anytime she would not want to lug her Galco purse around.

You can't get the right answer on the forum. It varies with the area, and usually even with neighborhood within the area. Your wife probably already knows the answer, anyway. Women are usually a bit more attuned to fashion, because they care more about it. a local cop might be able to help you out, but remember that you're not trying to hide it from the cops, you're trying to hide it from whatever criminals might use the information against you. You don't need to worry about the sheeple because your wife already knows whether they will know.

Maxpedition bags are more useful for trail carry, camping, and so on. There's provision for a water bottle on some of them, which is more likely to be of use than a gun in most situations. There's also room for an AMK SOL packet, which again is more likely to actually be of emergency use than a gun.

When I'm out hunting, I wear a pack like that one and its great for protecting the handgun when I have to crawl under a barbwire fence. Mine will even hold a 5-1/2" Buckmark .22 with a Trophy Red dot sight and it was fairly inexpensive when I bought it at some gunshow and its also pretty fast on the draw. Would not wear it in town though, whether or not people think it holds a gun doesn't matter, I just don't like the look.

Those of us who carry would think gun when seeing a fanny pac. But what of those people who are not gun people? It probably wouldn't cross their mind.

Do whatever makes you happy, wear what you want to wear, carry whatever gun you want to carry(the bigger the better), see who you want to see, but most important BE YOURSELF. Who cares what everyone else thinks just so your happy.

I think they are very handy for certain places. I have two, one small one for cycling and a larger one for other special times. The same can be said for vests, in most other countries a vest is so common that if you are not wearing one you look out of place. I wish everyone wore vests here in the US.

Just a question on fanny packs...

Do you consider a fanny pack "off the body carry?"
I am supposing that it might have to come off if you go to the bathroom or go into a store to try on clothes or something.

I've never used one, nor will I- not my style.
However, in years past I have used an "off the body" method of carry, not that I recommend it by any means, but it was what worked at the time.

I agree. It doesn't cross their mind. Before I carried, "GUN" never once crossed my mind when I'd see a fanny pack. But I still don't think "GUN" as soon as I see a fanny pack. I think "uncomfortable", when I see one.

I also agree with rchance that said do what works for you, do whats comfortable for you, and don't worry about what other people think.

I like this fanny pack. I had previously sworn them off for all of the previously cited reasons. But this is small and I putt my keys or small camera in the netted front and it doesn't look like a gun pack.

I carry my Glock 27 plus an xtra mag. Works in the heat!

If I were a bad guy intent on mayhem, fanny packs like that, just like the "tactical" photographer vests that a lot of police and civilians both wear, scream "Shoot me first".
