Igloo

Never got enough snow in Missouri or the right kind to build one. However I have frozen my tail off in down sleeping bags in tents. One day I said I'm too old for tents.

About 6 or 7 years ago my wife and I bought a portable igloo. 32' long. When it gets cold we use the remote to turn up the temp. Oddly enough it has an AC on top. A fridge inside, HD TV with DVD and a radio, indoor outhouse and shower. What'll they think of next.

We took it on the maiden run, 2 big ole labs, 5 grand kids and us. I laid in bed giggling like a kid. This is sweeter than a Holiday Inn.

And the creature comfort of all comforts. I took the 2 little living room chairs out and put in a recliner in front of the picture window.

Sorry, the igloo is offtrack and melted. Mind grabbing me a beer while your up. :)

My boys have made and slept in snow caves during some bitter cold nights. There was a lot of pine bows with snow covering. they claimed it was warm.

Donna: You owe it to your heritage to go for a big tour of Alaska. It is both remarkable for the beauty of the geology and for the great people that live there. The Alaska Native people have had their ups and downs since the outsiders took over, but right now they are on a big 'up'. Also, you should read James Mitchner's book "Alaska". That alone will give you a basis for digesting all the various political activities and cultural doings that are always churning there. I spent almost 5 years there and got the chance to tour the entire state. Being cold doesn't do it for me, but I sure wish I could spend every summer back there. ....... Big Cholla

It's one of my fondest hopes to be able to visit Alaska one of these days. I actually considered moving there, but settled on Idaho, it too is a spectacular place.

And I'm a great fan of James Michener, have read many of his books, but somehow missed 'Alaska'. It's now on my reading list, so thank you.
