Boy I'll certainly say one thing!
If ever a place existed that needed it more, I've never heard of it?
GOOD LUCK! Unless Daley vapor locks at his desk the way his daddy did, the crystal ball would be extremely murky for crook county and Chicago. But were it to be allowed elsewhere other than, I can think of some other real "garden spots" that would be served well by it!

Seems that CCW legislation is the least of IL worries, the legislation requiring a million dollar insurance policy for all "gun ownership card holders" (a joke in itself) is really scary. This could give way too many lawmakers really bad ideas.
This is the type of stuff to watch as that's how the Obamas of the world will take away our rights, they wont do it in the open, they will use this type of back door tactic.

Illinois has 'home rule', and no pre-emption laws. Even if IL did pass a concealed carry law, Chicago would make it illegal under home rule.

There were individual counties in IL that were thinking of passing CCW laws, good only in their county under home rule, I don't think they ever went anywhere.

That "home rule" idea is really strange to me. No corporation, municipal or otherwise, ordinarly has powers greater than those granted by charter or general law.

But that anomoly aside, I noticed that the Constitution of Ill. has a provision that guarantees the right to bear arms. But I've never heard anything about it. Seems to me that any municipality that attempts to enforce an ordinance in contradiction to the state's constitution would be violating some individual's right to due process under the U.S. Constitution, Fourteenth Amendment.

Thank God the constitutional convention required the re-write of Illinois constitution around 1970'! Can you imagine what Daley & Co. could do to the re-write now?

IL counties cannot pass home rule. Home rule only applies to cities with certain populations and then only if they want home rule. The votes done by the counties were referendum only and had no statutory authority other than to send a message to the legislature showing support for CCW in those counties. Counties have no constitutional authority to pass laws conflicting with state law.
The bill for the $1M insurance is a separate bill from the CCW bills before the legislature. Different sponsors, different bills. There are currently 3 different CCW bills before the IL legislature. They differ on who will be responsible for administering the program and issuing the CCW license. Currently all 3 CCW bills and the insurance bill are in committee and don't appear to be moving out of committee.

Yes I am aware that the bill's were separate, I was trying to make the point that the bill requiring the insurance should have all IL citizens having a fit and the rest of us very leery. I guess maybe I should post in the 2nd Amendment/politics forum instead of here. To me this is a huge issue and I see no discussion of it at all.

Hmm, I thought only Jessie Jackson, Jr., Mayor Daley, and other IMPORTANT people could carry guns in IL. Heaven forbid a law abiding citizen carry one.

"I heard on the radio the other day that IL is talking about the CCw permits. Does anyone have some information about this."

Yes, for what politician are you are a body guard?
