I'm going to propose a revolver design to Taurus.

Colt, Ruger and Kimber make better quality revolvers.
Right now, Colt's quality control is horrible. I've had to send back a new Python for repair and Colt outright replaced my 4" King Cobra Target since it didn't work out of the box.

Ruger, their quality control isn't so hot either with their guns from what I'm hearing. Currently, S&W is doing bad too on the quality control front too.

Kimber, haven't purchased one yet, but man are they nice but pricey.

Oh, I love my 686-1 very much as well. My Taurus shoots the same cartridges but, if I take a tumble in the hills or drop it, I won't fret as much and it is lighter.
My Taurus Model 66 is just as good as my Ruger GP100, Colt King Cobra, and S&W Model 686-3.

It cost me less than $450 and is a seven-shot gun with a fantastic trigger. Why wouldn't I like it? It runs great and is accurate.

But who wants to buy a Taurus?
I have been a big S & W guy for 50 years, but my Taurus Model 85 Ultralite .38 Special with 2” barrel I bought 20 years ago is the best revolver I own.
I realize it is only a sampling of one, but I have tried the double-action trigger pulls on others at gun shows and gun stores and on average they are pretty good. I plan on getting a six-shot. version before long.

7 yrs ago my FFL took a Taurus revolver in trade for something he had at a gun show. Adjustable target rear sight on it. The top right corner of the "u" on the rear sight was chiped/broken off... This is on the press in "blade". He called Taurus and told them what he needed. They refused to ship either the sight or just the press in blade saying "it's a safety issue". He sent it to them. 7 yrs later, they still have it as "sorry, we haven't made any more of those yet". "And we can't send back a gun that has a damaged sight as that would be a safety issue."

They STOLE his gun and refuse to send it back. I told him I'd make him a new blade and notch it for him. He called Taurus and told them he has a machinist that will make on. They refuse to send it back. I'd guess they lost it years ago. Just this has kept me from buying a Taurus.

I have a HiPoint carbine in 10mm but will not own a Taurus.

If I was searching for another revolver, I'd forget the Taurus and the others and look for an older S&W. They hold up well and are accurate. Should the time come to sell or trade, you'll have a gun that holds its value and is more desirable and much easier to sell than the rest. Your money and your choice.

My brother has a 15 year old Taurus PT 1911. Fit and blue (not black) semi matte finish is superb. Functions great.

I've owned my 44 raging bull for many years, never a problem and very accurate. With full power reloads its very comfortable to shoot, the rubber grips and high grip make the recoil mild.
I shoot more rounds in a session than most shooting their 44 will shoot as long as they own the gun.
My Taurus is tight has one of the best blue jobs I have seen on any gun.
would I buy another, only if someone steals this one! Then in a heartbeat.

Same for me but, my S&W collection is smaller than most I'm sure. Love them just the same. Top to bottom 5903, 686-1, 617-6.

I own fifty or more Smiths, but also a half dozen or so Tauri. It's not my first choice but honestly the brand has never let me down. Not as nice as Smith, Colt, Ruger, etal, but all of mine have been perfectly serviceable. Their 92 series is actually quite nice. The G2/G3/G4 series work as advertised; I carried my G2C for a number of years.

I’ve heard more than a few horror stories about Taurus customer service or the lack thereof.

The quality in my current production Rossi RP-63 (a Taurus made product) is fantastic for a current production gun on today's market.

Design wise, it is inspired by S&W.

It is a lock free, hammer mounted firing pin, six-shot, 3" .357 Magnum revolver. It is the same size as a Colt D-Frame, which is smaller than a S&W K-Frame.

Best part about it? Cost me less than $450 out the door.

I wish S&W made a gun like this.

Heck the Taurus Model 856 is a six-shot snub-nose .38 and it is smaller than a Colt D-Frame and they make it in an aluminum frame. Unlike Colt right now, their current D-Frame sized guns are only steel framed guns.

That lockwork looks pretty darned good.

That makes no sense. Because when I worked for a FFL, we sent stuff to Taurus for warranty repair. Now, some of the guns, like the PT-99 would be sent in for repair for the busted rear sight.

Which was common since the rear sight was somewhat delicate. But people treated 'em like a regular Beretta 92 and try to go all Die Hard on the range.

Anyways, Taurus stopped making the PT-99 and eventually ran out of sights. They'd get the PT-99 look it over, contact the owner, and inform 'em "hey, we don't make those sights anymore. Sorry. We can send you the gun back as is or give you a credit for another gun."

And that's what they'd do. Send the gun back with a note saying "unable to repair, don't have parts in stock anymore."

Same deal with S&W, Colt, Ruger, etc. Ruger isn't working on Security Sixes anymore. And S&W is running out of parts for some guns like the older pre-lock models and even their first generation SIGMAs.

I had a S&W 342Ti that cracked the frame. Sent it back to S&W. They told me "we can send it back to you as is, or you can get a credit for something else."

Again, it makes no sense.

I've got a 608 and a M66. Within 2 weeks I had found parts kits from Everygunparts.com to get replacement parts. I do like neither have MIM parts but it's not like you can find parts online new or order from Taurus and repair turnaround per the Taurus chat group runs 7-8 months.
