Guys tell me what model number's are out there to be had in a .22cal LR. I'm looking for something in a 4" or less. Pictures would also help.

There's a 4" K frame for sale in the classifieds. look up rbert0005
There is also a model 63 nop dash in there.

I believe you will be limited with a 3".
Off the top of my head J frame 317, or 22 mag 650 with heavy barrel.
<span class="ev_code_BLUE">If you include 2 & 4"ers</span> you will have a lot to choose from.

I'm not a 22 expert and I'm sure I've missed another 3".

Put a "WTB" ad in the classifieds.

Good Luck

Buy a used Model 18, the best .22 revolver ever created! It has a four-inch barrel.

Changed my question around, sorry about that.

I have had a few revolvers and semi-auto pistols in .22lr. Of all the revolvers and pistols my favorite has been a S&W 617 with 4" brl with full lug and combat grips and a S&W Model 41 from the late 60's (just shot it today for the first time). I had a Colt Diamondback that I liked but the trigger was just not for me.

I started my handguning with a ruger convertable 48 years ago. I bought this very old but nice single six to replace it. The old ones shoot nice. Today, I would look at a 4" model 18. Wish I had one! Here is what I do have. A model 34, the old ruger single six, a old colt trooper, a HDM, and a 1st year nickle scout. They are all very old and very good!

Well...not one of them is perfect but I can think of several that put together into a collection of shooters would be perfect!

4" Model 63
4" Model 18 (actually I prefer 6" 17 but you said 4" or less)
4.5" Colt Huntsman

I own a Pre-M17, Pre-M18, and M63. They all shoot great, but my favorite, hands-down, is the 4" Pre-M18. Just happened to be shooting it yesterday, and it is amazingly accurate at 60 yards! The M63 is a neat gun, but a little small and light. The Pre-M17 is wonderful to shoot and accurate, but for some reason the Pre-M18 spins my propellor...

That may be true. LOL!!

Smith has made 22s in a variety of configurations. The first question you need to ask yourself before shopping is: do I want a medium (K-frame) or a small (J-frame) gun? It makes a big difference. The Ks are substantially larger than the Js. But, size aside, they utilize a different spring mechanism and that can make a substantial difference in trigger pull. The K's use leaf springs as their mainsprings, the J's all use coil springs. By reputation the trigger pull of the leaf spring Ks tends to be smoother and lighter than that of the coil spring Js.

As for models, the Ks that I'm aware of that came/come in 4-inch barrel lengths are the models 18 (discontinued but Smith just reintroduced it) and 617. I own a 4" 617 and, if it's possible to be in love with 2 3/4 pounds of wood and stainless steel, then I'm in love.

There are many more J frame models of 4" or less. A few that come to mind: the 63, the 34, and the 43.

As stated above, the double action triggers of the K-Frames are much more useable.

I'd be looking for a 5 screw pre-18 myself.

I have owned a lot of guns through the years. Yet somehow I never owned a K frame .22 lr. (except for model 53 jet). When I was young I used to do a lot of aerial shooting with a single six. Once in about 1962 somebody let me try his K-22. Seemed I couldnt miss a thrown bottle. I have wanted one ever since!
