Santa would FIRST appear at the Thanksgiving Day Parade. And there was THREE holidays. Not HallowThamksMas.

When I got grown up I would look through the Gil Hebard Guns catalog.

Holidays now are more about folks finding an excuse to NOT work and expect to get paid for it.
Sad state of affairs in my little town here of about 40,000 people. In the past 5 or so years we've lost Bergners, JC Penney, Sears and now K Mart. All these people stretching a 1 day holiday into a week off must be driving out of town to spend their money too.

Yep, it was just the day after Thanksgiving. And there were cartoons on most of the day.
Gold dollar, That brings back memories. We always had a Monkey Wards catalog in the house [Cabin] when I was a youngster. I thumbed thru that thing many times. Later on it was the Herter's catalog & the Model Perfect stuff. Still have one of Herter's knives.
I would thumb through the old Shooter's Bible—my goodness I loved that old catalogue!

I've lived in the US long enough to remember when you didn't turn on your Xmas lights until after Thanksgiving. Guy up the street took down his Halloween stuff and put up his Santas, lights, reindeer and whatever and turned it on within a couple of days.

Usually from the day after Thanksgiving until the end of January, I do my utmost best to avoid any kind of retail establishment unless its absolutely necessary. Looks like I'm gonna have to start early this year.

In the 1950's, my dad would use the Hy Hunter, machine gun and DWAT catalog for the same purpose, Santa never came thru. (In the 80's when I got my first full auto, dad thought it was Christmas all over again!)

Went to Sam's Club on July 5, 2018. The Christmas decorations were on the shelf. Two foot and four foot tall 'Nut Cracker soldiers' -- really left me with a cool fuzzy feeling on a 100° F outside day.
The Sears Lionel train set was on display in the store on Friday after Thanksgiving -- then the dreams started. Now Lionel and Sears are both gone.

I can remember when the only thing they made in China was Chinamen.
I'm "old" enough to remember the "blue" laws...all businesses were closed on Sundays. Period. The only shopping I do on "black" friday is from the comfort of my home...
