Just got back from my favorite gun shop and found 2 used Model 10 with 4" tapered barrels for sale. They have import stamps on them, and the owner said they were bought from Horton he wasn't sure if they were from Mexico or South America. They looked as if they were carried much, and shot little if at all. One had a heavy turn ring on it, but looked nice and tight ($290.00). The other one had buggered screw heads, and something I've never seen before - the imprint of the base of the cartridge cases on the recoil shield ($280.00). Both had a lot of wear at the muzzle, and the grips were worn and chipped. He also had a brand new 637 for $449.00 - with the lock - he said that the 637 was one of the pistols S&W was dropping the price on to be competitive (price wise) with Taurus and Ruger.

Regards,

Dave

the model 10s sound kind of high for the condition you describe.

+1, they sound like my M10, which also features what I presume to be the initials of a former owner clumsily engraved on the side. Like your Gun #2, mine has the outlines of the cartridge heads worn into the recoil shield. It also came with the original numbered diamond center stocks, but they're chipped and the checkering is almost totally worn off. I paid $170.

Carguychris and Afmel:

I agree, that's one reason they stayed at the store. Another reason is the tapered barrel. I know some people like them, but I like the heavy barrel configuration.

Dave

All of them sound high to me. That 637 should go for around 400.00 and I wouldn't give more than 200.00 for those Model 10's. 'Course, you know how opinions are.
