Been about a year without buying a new gun. I think I am having withdrawal symptoms of some kind. Need a .45 acp because I have hundreds of rds of .45 and only a Bond arms .45 to shoot .45 in. My tax refund was due 10 days ago but no show so far. Well maybe the $1400 will show up soon. Then the problem of finding a .45 at a fair price. Being an old retired fart looking for a gun will give me something to do.

Rock Island Armory make a plain jane 1911 in .45 that was going for about 450-500 before the craziness. Heard good things about them. Not pretty but they shoot. I have a RIA in 9MM that I love.

Save those $$ for something that you really need! Or something that your spouse really really needs. That would get you lots of bonus points. And a balance of points in the + column is a good thing around my house.

No wife to worry about and any guns I have will go to my son. He really likes guns but with 3 kids to put through college he can't afford many guns. I have passed 5 guns to him in the last 3 years. made me and him feel good. Any more I get he will end up with after I play with them for a time.

For fun, etc., take a good hard look at the Rock Island Armory 1911-A1. The RIA factory produces this as a plain Jane WWII era pistol. They also produce it with all the bells and whistles for targets, etc. I have one of the WWII era type pistols. Simply excellent in every respect. Well worth the price. Has not ever failed. It will feed empty cases. Colt makes some pretty pistols. One day I will buy another one. But for the time being, I'm extremely pleased with this RIA.

Now ... on a different tack ... I have a S&W 625-2 that is my absolute favorite .45 ACP pistol period without any questions! It is profoundly accurate. It shoots everything without complaint. It positively adores various hard cast lead SWC bullets handloaded in common .45 ACP brass ... or loaded in .45 Auto-Rim brass. I have a pile of the six round full moon clips. Those things are problematic. Why? They make it to easy to shoot lots of ammo real quick through that wonderful revolver. The DA trigger pull is buttery soft. The SA trigger pull is like the proverbial glass rod breaking. It is a joy to my eyes. If this floats your boat, then get yourself a paddle and get abroad. I've never regretted buy this revolver. HTH. Sincerely. bruce.

I'm not normally one to discourage someone from buying a new gun, but I offer an alternative:

Figure out how much .45 ammo you have, and see if you can trade it to someone who has ammo that fits your existing guns. That way you can continue to shoot without having to invest in a new firearm at these crazy prices.

Pity your itch didn't start a bit earlier. CDNN sold off a slew of brand new Springfield XDs in 45 for under $400 a little over a year ago. I got a 5" Tactical and then got the range bag and extra mags from SA.

At the lower end of the price range the Rock Island Arms 1911A1 like already mentioned. If not a 1911, the Ruger American .45.

Toward the upper end, other than Colt, Springfield Range Officer/Operator is a fine 1911 style. Wish I hadn't sold mine.

Revolver, S&W 625PC, one of my favorite Smiths. But you gotta lose the "clown grips"

Had the same issue a month ago. No new guns in almost a year. Walked into a shop I don't go to very often. Walked away with a new Shield EZ in 9mm. Didn't need, don't like 9s. Felt great to have a new pistol!

I'm in bad need of a Norinco AK47.

I have a Romanian with the under folding stock, but I "need" to replace the Norinco I had years ago.

I'm torn between a m29 in nickel or a revolver I dont have. I have some $$ im too frugal, I need to bite the bullet, go browsing and just buy it. I'll let the gun gods guide me.

The sad thing is I had S&W Night guard in 45acp that I let someone talk me out of. Made a good profit but now I sure wish I still had that gun.

Consider a SIG P220. I don't have one, but the folks on SIGTalk love them. They may become collectors items, as SIG appears to be moving in the direction of offering only 9mm handguns in the future.

One .45 acp that I do have is the FNX-45 Tactical DA/SA. It's a full-size pistol, with a 5.25" threaded barrel. It carries 15+1 rounds of .45 goodness, comes with three magazines, is milled for a red dot optical sight, includes a bunch of adapter plates for various red dots, has raised iron sights for easy co-witnessing, and has three or four palm swell grip adapters. Cost is in the $1100-1200 range. I've got over 7,000 rounds through mine, and it is extremely accurate and extremely reliable. I consider it to be a perfect home defense pistol.

Along with the Rock Island Armory, there's also ATI that makes a very good 1911 for the same price. Well, it did a few years ago. I gave mine to my son; it still has had no problems, besides the two times that spring cap flew off never to be found on my basement floor.

Springfield Armory 1911 Loaded. PX9151L
I have had Colts & Kimber's but it has been the best.

I added a new gun with the last free money they sent from DC. Exact amount of check and gun. Our big spring show is next week end and my son is already asking what new gun am I buying with the DC free money. Looking on the tables next week in will be fun and I can always spend the money on a couple of bricks of 22lr Thunderbolts if I do not find a gun that looks great.

I'd like to have a 7 or 8" 686 or 586. I'd try it out as a bullseye gun.

$$$ came in today and first look at Buds shows a Ruger AM-C in 45 for not bad money but just does not grab me. A few 1911s for more money but no commander size which I would prefer.

I have or have had one or more of the following 45 ACP Handguns:

1911 & A1 also 1927 Argentine

Colt Commander

S&W 1917

S&W 625 series of 1989

Sig 220

Sig 245

Star PD

Para Ord. 3.25 (6 shot)

Para Ord. 4.25 (12 shot)

I also have a Marlin Camp 45 (uses 1911 mags)

Of all the guns in 45 ACP I have owned, I never had one that wasn't fun! But my favorite is the 625 (series of 1989) The hardest to find is the Marlin carbine. They are not that rare, but nobody wants to sell them! (they are discontinued!)

Good luck finding something that makes you happy!

Ivan

Made myself a promise a while back, (before all this), that due to my age and already bulging inventory, I was done buying guns. The owner of my LGS just snorts, "Sure you are." Well, there was a Sig 229 in 357sig in the used gun showcase, and if they had ammo for it, I would've broken my promise. Checked the interwebs, Natchez had 50rd boxes of 124gr TMJ, $62.99 each. That did it, much as I would've liked taking the plunge, hard pass on the Sig.

I can certainly vouch for the SIG mentioned earlier. I have one of the earlier imports and it is extremely easy to use. One 45 I did not see in the list above was the Norinco 1911A1 "knockoff". Certainly not a "knockoff" as the metal used in the slide and frame is superb. I was lucky to pick one up for a song many years ago, and people still think that I have an old Colt 1911A1 until they read the maker's name. I think that these were banned from importation many years ago (Clinton admin?). Dave_n

I would suggest a Ruger LW Commander. Super weight and balance and a decent 50 yd gun. If you don't want to pick up brass a 625-8 PC is a great gun. I have both. Enjoy both.
