The quickest car I have owned was a 1975 Corvette. It had a built solid cam 383 stroker motor, a 3200 rpm stall speed torque converter, a Fairbanks Racing turbo 400 tranny, and 4:11 gears. That car was quick, and a beast off the line and in the 1/4 mile.
Fastest car is probably my 1995 Corvette. Supposed to be a 172 / 175 mph car, depending on what magazine you believe. Had it up to 150 mph one time, and chickened out. It was still pulling pretty good though.
Quickest bike is probably my hard tail chopper. Weighs next to nothing, just frame and motor - a built 100 inch motor with a 6 speed. Way quicker than any stock Harley, and would blow away my only Jap bike I ever had, a 1982 Honda 750f.
Used to have a 1969 Camaro that was originally a 6cyl. car that I converted to a warmed over big block with big gears. That car was an adventure, as it was about impossible to get it to really hook up. Great though if you wanted to stomp on it at 40 mph., and smoke the tires while going sideways...
Took a new C-7 Corvette for a test drive once, but the salesman wouldn't let me have any fun...
Back in the 1980's when I was a trooper, we used Ford Crown Vics. Cars had smogged out 351's. People used to be impressed with the car, asking about the "Police Package", and debating what secret go fast mods they had. I used lie with a straight face, didn't want them to know that they would usually top out at about 100 mph., then over heat. They got a little better in the later 80's. They did sound decent when you flipped the air cleaner cover over too enhance the sound of the carb sucking in air.
