We have an incredible fly hatch assembled in our house. We've been putting up fly strips and have captured hundreds, but no matter what there are always another 5 or six swirling around under each of the strips.

I was thinking about a zapper, but after reading the reviews, it seems like they are all cheap Chinese junk that either don't work at all, or break after a few days.

Can anyone recommend a good one?

When the occasional fly gets into the house, I watch them until they land and take 'em out with a big rubber band.

I use this baby in the garage. It operates on 2 AA batteries and is rated at 1900 to 2100 volts! Tennis anyone?

Good thing they included a warning...
I was gonna touch it to my tongue and hit the button.

I use bug spray with Permethrin. Get the highest percentage Permeth you can find. Spray it on windows. This keeps the spray away from pets and kids if used with discretion.

Bugs are attracted to light. They will get on the windows and die. Then just vacuum them up off the floor and window sill. They'll be easy to catch then, as they won't be moving at all. Works 24/7. After a couple of life cycles, they will be few and far between. The permethrin kills them quickly, before they can start another generation.

De-con used to make really big "Majic Markers" that put a clear insecticide on the inside of windows. In the old farmhouse we got the big hairy flies every spring. They would brush-up against that poison and end up in a big pile on the floor. The second year we only treated windows above tile floors so it was easier sweeping the bodies up. My toddlers were never prone to eating dead bug off the floor, and we didn't have indoor pets, so safety wasn't a concern.

I once noticed a few bees flying around in the basement and treated the East facing window during the night. At about noon the next day I checked on it. The pile of dead bees almost filled a 2-gallon pail!

When we were kids on the farm my Grandma would give us each a dish towel and we'd all go to the back of the house. We'd start shooing the flies from the back to the front. Once we got them to the kitchen someone would run to the door and open it and out they would go.
The good old days
