came across a used 457 the other day & i'm giving it serious thought.
i currently have 3 pistols of various flavors on layaway & that's why i'm hesitating.

what are the pros & cons, if any to a 457, & the value range in ex. rarely fired cond with box, manual & 2 factory mags?

it will run me about $450.00 OTD....opinions please!!!

I have had a 457 for about ten years, good gun aluminum frame, thin easily concealable, fairly lightweight. Takes a little getting used to its light and has some muzzle flip. Only bad thing I can say is the finish on the side could have been much better. It wears quickly. Also the sights were plastic I replaced mine with night sights. Other than that good little gun for the price.

A great CCW and it is a 45 made in the USA, is accurate, reliable, compact, and is fun to fire! How do you improve on that? Grab it before someone else figures it out!

I just got one and have not fired it yet, but I think it has promise. If you do a search here, there has been discussion of this model.

I bought a 457 about a yr ago based on opinions and comments found on search of this forum. Looked for info in search this pm but couldn't locate any----?prob with forum search function----which surprised me as I have made several comments/posts at various times in the past year to queries such as yours. My opinion is that the 457 represents great "value"----nice combination for the price of reliability, concealability and comfort/accuracy in shooting, esp in 45 cal. Maybe you'll have better luck than I with a 457 search on this forum; seems the overwhelming majority of comments I can recall seeing on this gun have been quite favorable and positive. Think I paid $400 or 450 for mine NIB. Hope this helps. Good luck.

One more chime in...

The .45 ACP was not developed to shoot tin cans off fence rails or at squirrels scampering up trees. It was developed to knock down and kill and enemy with one sub-sonic hit. So, if you want a fancy looking, more expensive 4-5 inch barreled Colt, Kimber, Springfield, Browning or Para-Ord...or any of the polymer "water pistols" I see at gun shows...then don't get the plain Jane, reliable, easy to conceal 3 1/2 inch knock-down-kill-your assailant-with-one-shot handgun.

The 457 is the big brother of the 908, and the 908 was a great gun for me. I agree on the finish of the slide and the cheap plastic sights, as my 908 suffered from the same issues. The finish on the frame is fine. What about a Mahovsky's Metalife finish on the slide? :-)
