I have a stainless 442. Wondering if there is any info about it. All new ones are black.

Also looking for some low recoil ammo for it. Making this my wife's carry gun.

If it's a 442, it's probably nickel. Stainless is a 642. Target loads, 148 gr wadcutters, are light recoil, but can be hard to find locally. Standard pressure 130 gr loads like WW white box can usually be found at WalMart, & don't recoil that much.

I recommend WC for most practice with a 442, and they can also be used for defense with recoil-sensitive shooters. Otherwise, the Speer short barrel ammo is perhaps more suitable for defense.

Does sound like one of the early nickel plated 442's. For ammo, try...

110gr Winchester Silvertip
110gr Federal Hydra Shok
125gr Speer Gold Dot hollow point
125gr Federal Nyclad hollow point
148gr Federal Gold Match wadcutter

I have a 442 satin nickle from '93 as my daily carry. The non +P Federal 125 gr. Nyclads are your best bet for this gun.

I have a 642. I use 130gr FMJ for practice and I carry it with Federal Nyclads. I think it's a good low-recoil combination.
