Inherited revolvers I just brought home.

Yes WOWEEEE!!!!

I have a sporterized mauser that was my step Dad's also. Not quite as nice as yours. Has a weaver K4 on it and I shot 2 deer with it growing up. I changed to lever guns after that one. It was a bit heavy. 8 pounds 11 ounces unloaded. Yikes.

My step Dad was a CHP in Orange County and this was his service weapon. It had Farrants on it when I received it but I sold them to a forum member here. The money was a blessing to my Mom and I didn't really like them at all. I know that might be heresy, but they didn't fit me at all. But someone was saying these grips might be more rare too????

QUOTE: ABPOS- My step Dad was a CHP in Orange County...

Small world! I grew up in Orange County. Westminster. The first handgun I owned I bought at the Stockade there. A Ruger GP100 .357. I bought the Ruger M77 ultralight the following year.

Wow. He's passed on now so I can't talk a lot of details of CA. I know they lived in Mission Viejo at one time. Does that ring a bell?

Dude, that Winchester in .243, that is about the picture of the perfect hunting gun. I'd be all over one, shooting it and testing for accuracy and such. That one, that is... well... I just like that a lot.

The other winny is nice, but whenever I see a lighter bolt gun chambered in .30-06, my face winces a little and my teeth feel some pain. LOL. I don't think I'd find that fun for very long. That one I used at least soaked up some recoil from being so heavy. Yeah, up here in winter when your wearing a coat and jacked up from seeing Bambi, you don't feel it. But for the range and fun... No way.

Although I've been wanting to get set up to reload so I can make some light loads for .30-06. I have an 03A3 that is pure joy to shoot and would be awesome if the recoil was just a bit less. It's not too bad though, with M2 ball.

That scope on your .243 looks like the redfields they used to use on the M40's.

Well, I have to say that I was pretty amazed at the first group with the 5 inch M27, the Nickel M19, the K22, and the Colt Model P.

And, then I saw the pair of 1911s, and I about fell out of my chair.

I am proud to say I did not wet my pants. :)

ABPOS:
I know Mission Viejo. I have an old classmate who lives there. Interesting that you mention reloading. My Dad gave me all of his reloading equipment. He said "never sell this", which I won't. The .243 has a Redfield scope on it. Good eye! And when I was going through my Mom's safe there was a Springfield 1903a1 in there and the shipping box under her bed. She said she had two and one of them my Dad had modified, but I think it was the Mauser he had modified and put the original stock in the box! I'll have to check it the next time I go south. If so, that Mauser will be more collectible even though the stock on it now is beautiful!

My dad had a thing for S&W revolvers. He had them stuffed everywhere he might want to sit down. In his truck, under the couch cushions (more than one), down in the side of his recliner, and generally anywhere you might happen to look in a cabinet or whatever. He believed in being close to his protection. My brother ended up with most of what he had left but he had sold off most of them before he died. I got a nice 629 from my brother at a discount rate though. I never could talk him out of one of dad's guns. He gave them to his grandson. He did give me the gun cabinet dad built. Dad was big into wood working and that is one nice gun cabinet. It's stored in my brother in law's warehouse for now because I didn't want to move it to where I live now when I'm getting ready to move back home soon.

I do have guns I got from my dad. I gave a shotgun he gave me to my daughter. I still have a .22 he gave me though. I'll always have that one and it will be passed on to my daughter who probably can shoot it better than me anywayl

That's amazing CJ as my Dad was the same way. When I saw him last he showed me all the places he had staged revolvers around the house. And they're still there I am sure. I too have the gun cabinet my Dad made as he was a big time woodworker. His wood shop is still full of equipment and I have many things he had made. My mom has a house full of beautiful furniture and curios he also made. Your post brings back many memories!

Well, you definitely hit the jackpot of jackpots Kestrelman. If I was you I'd be loading up some .38's and .243's and having a good ole time at the range. Or light loads for the .30-06.

K, fascinating thread, not just the immaculate collection of firearms your father passed down onto you but the relationship between Father and Son as well. Personally with my father's passing in 2013 and myself as his only son receiving his firearms collection there's a lot of similarities.

Even the conundrum of whether to sell or to keep them as a remembrance of my father & allowing me to pass them down to my son & daughter.

Sent you a PM here & over at the 1911 forum, hope to hear back.

My condolences on the passing of your father, I know from experience this is a difficult time.

I made another trip south this month and came back with some items that perhaps members can add some insight into. First, I know what the Ruger and Sig are but the S&W is a 38 special but I haven't looked what model it is.

Here is an '03A3 Smith Corona with original box. He paid $14.50 on another NRA sale.

And this one is absolutely beautiful! But I haven't been able to find anything on it as of yet. U.S. Remington '03A3 nickle.
