Hey, all.

I have been growing the collection to the point where my homeowner's policy no longer provides adequate coverage in the event of loss (fire, theft, etc.).

What do you folks with larger collections do for insurance? How much do you pay for your premiums? Is this something you even think about? I haven't seen much/any discussion on the matter, most places I've looked.

I know the NRA offers gun insurance. No idea the cost, but you might want to check it out.

I use Collectibles Insurance, their website is www.collectinsure.com They do not require that you send them an inventory or serial numbers. Slightly different rules for super high end stuff. Cost is very reasonable. About $225 for $35,000 in coverage or thereabouts. They isure all types of collectibles.

When one safe gets full I just buy another one. I'm talking real safes, Mosler etc. These things weigh 3500 lbs.

All major insurance companies sell Inland Marine Insurance. It covers a number of things, firearms, jewelry, sporting goods etc. I have it on my firearms. It covers anything that happens to these items, including theft. It also covers breakage etc. Mine cost me less than $300 a year.

Insurance for gun collection

I have been insuring my cars, house, and kids life with Allstate Insurance, for more than 35 years. They charge me $10.00 per $1,000.00 of coverage, for the rider on my guns and jewelry. I don't insure all my guns, like the ones that live is a large safe, but the ones that I carry and the ones that I shoot on a regular basis are insured. I have never had to file a claim, but they are insured, if I have a problem. My Allstate Agent is a man by the name of Gerry Casside in Springfield, Pa. He is always helpful at answering questions. I cannot say enough good about his service!

I would check with your insurance company and see if they offer a "rider" policy to cover what is now above what is covered in your basic homeowners.

I am in an apartment and have rental insurace with Allstate. The basic rental insurance did not cover much, so I got a additional rider from them. Under my "sports equipment" rider, I have $25K of additional coverage for my guns and ammo. I made sure I spoke with two different underwriters to confirm that both guns and ammo is covered. It was cheap too...an additional $35 for the year.
