Interarms 30.06

I have an Interarms30.06. My question is does anyone know why mine would not have the MARK X symbol stamped in the breech? It has a five digit number instead. Nowhere on this rifle is it marked with the MARK X stamp.

What areas of the gun do you need pics of. I am very curious, this was my ex father in laws and he traveled the country doing gun shows, and he never kept a gun that was not very special. So I am very curious about this gun.

Tim, is the serial number the only marking on the gun? I doubt it. Pics, or at least accurate verbal description of ALL the markings as well as pics of the gun in general can tell a lot. Something as simple as the proof marks can tell where the gun was manufactured, and hence whether it is a Mark-X or not. You will have to remove the barreled action from the stock to find all the markings on the rifle.

Interarms was primarily an importer as opposed to a manufacturer, and while the Zastava built Mauser Mark-X rifle was the most frequently found, they did import other makes. The Zastava built Mauser 98 pattern rifles were quality made. I have owned several over the years, and liked them. I now have a Mitchell Arms imported Zastava Mark-X in 30-06 that I picked up on the cheap. It is beautifully fit and finished, and I do believe has a 338-06 rechambering / reboring in its future.

Been awhile since I've seen one but if I remember correctly some of the Interarms Whitworth Mauser actioned rifles are not marked as Mark X. I remember the actions are stamped Alexandria Virginia, Intertarms, Manchester, England.

The Mark X made in Yugoslavia was marked 'Interarms/Alexandria Virginia/Zastavia Yugoslavia' on the left recv'r wall. Also had the ZCZ in a circle trade mark of Zastavia on the left wall.
'Mark X' was stamped on the left side of the recv'r ring of the action.

The Santa Barbara M98 action was made in Spain. But other than a very small 'SPAIN' marking on the side of the rear tang of the action,,there were no other markings or even proofs on these.
To see the 'SPAIN' marking you have to remove the action/bbl'd action from the stock.
The serial numbers on these generally begin w/a 'Z'.

Then there was the Centurion 98 mauser,,sold by Golden State Arms, Pasadena, Ca.
Also sold under Pasadena Arms Corp, Inc.
Seems to be the same action as the Santa Barbara,,no markings or proofs other than the small 'SPAIN' mark on the side of the tang.
