Interesting LEO "talk'

Thats what good Coppers do,...... TALK to people. I walked a Foot Post downtown for 3 years and loved it as you get to speak to all kinds of folks. I sat in a Coffee shop one day all alone and another customer came in and sat nearby. I could essentially sense he wished to chat so I invited him to my table if he cared to and he was initially surprised but accepted. After approximately 10 minutes of chit chat he looked at me and said " you don't act like most Cops ". I replied that I treat everyone the same and it was a job and not an adventure. My life as a Policeman did not define my life and personality although I enjoyed the work. Have to have life in perspective.

When I saw "5k under the limit" I thought
"What are you guys traveling around in, the Starship Enterprise?"

Then I saw it was Kamloops.

Usually, here in the US anyways, we use the abbreviation "km".

do cops even walk a beat anymore? back in the early 1960's there was a beat cop during the days and one that worked until about midnight in the business section(town of 24,000). the night guy was a little over weight , had his 38 special with an extra 12 rounds and his cheap flashlight (long before maglight). they had just got a 2 way radio about the size of a brick and probably weighed just a much. I think he still had a call box key. everybody got a long with him and if you needed something he was the one that got it done. I remember his name as well.

Steveno,
There are many jurisdiction that still have Footmen but it's normally in larger cities with " compressed ", posts. Shop owners love a walking post and I've really never met a Policeman worth his salt that didn't enjoy working a Foot Post. It's a desired job and I loved doing it.

The Randalls I go to for most of my grocery needs now has a employee dedicated to cleaning the carts after every use. It is small enough and the traffic in store is light enough these days that they can do this. Walmart is trying something similar but is too big with too many people to be effective. I went there once to get stuff I can only find there and will be good for another month. Fingers crossed.

Can you still twirl a baton or is that not politically correct any more? You probably have as ASP baton anyway, and I don't think you can twirl those.

John,
I was broken in by a former NYC Transit Officer and he insisted I learn to make the baton, ( Hickory ), dance. I finally got pretty decent at it and I did use mine in that fashion and people loved it,.. expected a Footman to do it essentially. The agency subsequently forced us to remove the leather " Thong ", used to do that and then ultimately issued Plastic Sticks with only a large rubber Washer on them to secure them in the Baton Ring on the Sam Brown. Said it was intimidating to people when they saw us twirling the baton. Unprofessional I believe the term used. Most of the Brass that made those statements were " Test Takers ", and Cheer Leaders that wouldn't know a criminal from a pile of Feline Excrement. I never met anyone who didn't like and or appreciate a Footman doing it on his post.

A warning for the miscreants and entertainment for the rest of us. I miss that too.

Re: the OP's post, the streets here a lousy with walkers. Much more so than before the epidemic. Of course, we're out there too.
