I believe you are correct. He would have fit this Forum well. God Speed, Louis Lamm.

Yes, I could definitely see spending a few afternoons trading wild tales, some true some not. Sounds like a down to earth man to me. RIP.

I can only hope that someone will publish a piece like that when my sorry old carcass goes into the hole in the ground.

Outstanding!

I would hope they would add one additional line "He will be missed"

I would hope to have an obituary written as well as his.

You may ensure this, by writing your own...

I once had a magazine feature assignment to write two versions of a story concerning a state referendum vote on a wildlife management issue, with a deadline several months in advance of the November election, the outcome of course, then unknown. I pointed out to the assigning editor the obviously impossible requirement to predict volatile future events. He said, "It's not as hard as you may think." He went on to explain that one of his early career tasks at a small newspaper was to write "canned" obituaries of prominent locals, ready-to-print, in the event of their untimely deaths, as in being killed in car crashes, struck by lightning, or other accidents, shot by spouses or disgruntled employees or business associates, or stricken by fatal disease...

I'm thinking I might write my own obit, or at the least, outline flattering suggestions for those to whom the task may ultimately fall --- why leave this task in the hands of rank amateurs?

I'm thinking I might write my own obit,

My father wrote his own obituary, at least twelve years before he died--which was a good thing, because dementia set in a few years later, and he was beyond writing anything after that.

Dad sent copies of the obit to all four of his kids, instructing us that he was serious about wanting it printed after his death.

It was detailed without being overly long and was dryly funny in several places. We used it as it was, except for one closing line which I insisted on editing out. (Sorry, Dad.)
