This morning I was looking for some Garand information & found a S&W display box under the small stack of documents. Thought the box was an empty spare....wasnt......had a nickle M-29-2 in it with 6 reloads chambered. I finally remembered it was from an estate 10-12 years ago.

The display box contains only a copper brush, rather longish...nothing else. What is supposed to be in this box??? #406xxx

And, the 6 rounds were stuck it it.....only one fell out. Had to tap it w/soft plastic mallet on the end of the ejector to get them out. Several had a sticky greenish deposit on them (poor previous cleaning???). This had to be the source of the problem. Shooting them would have been the alternative & no one wants to do that!!!!

I'm assuming the cases were brass, in which case the "sticky greenish deposit" on the cases is verdigris, it has nothing to do with whether the firearm was properly cleaned or not, it is a chemical reaction that happens to brass.

S&W revolvers were shipped from the factory with a small screwdriver, cleaning rod to which could be attached a brush or swab (also included).

Also paperwork, usually a parts list, warranty card, and in that era a booklet about S & W branded holsters and ammo. If the SN is "N" 406xxx it likely shipped in 1977. We like photos ;) . Hope this is helpful.

Gents, figured to get some rises out of the 'forgotten' comment!!!! You guys are on your toes. At one time I did have an empty display box, was for a Colt, long since sold. I simply thought that the box I saw under the stack of papers was that one, as far as I knew, the M-29 was next to my bed......hence cartridges in it. Been in the basement for a while, I just forgot about bringing it down.

There are 450 guns in my gun room. Sometimes I will be looking for a certain one & get kinda panicky when I cant spot it.......have always 'found' everything sooner or later. About 3 years ago, I moved some little square boxes so my wife could use the filing cabinet they were blocking. Since they were heavy, I looked inside. One was MAC-11 submachine gun, one was a 100 rnd Thompson drum & the last had a new book called 'German Machineguns'. They had been there so long (1990).......... I really had forgotten about them.........

Will try to post pictures this time.....including the M-29-2.

Well.....took pictures, fell over a bipod gun on the floor, have bandaged my left knee, now I cant get photobucket to come up......

Now I am informed to 'End unresponsive program'.......so much for pictures of the 3 display boxed S&Ws.

Now going to try the gun room pictures........no luck!!!!

OK!!!! Now I got photobucket & my new S&W pictures.....

I have a user here who has offered me a screwdriver & a mop............does the M-29 take the same ones as the M-25???? Not very far apart in #'s......405xxx & 456xxx

Pictures........at last!!!! PJH

That photo that went around the net supposedly of Heston's house and gun collection was not Heston's.

With so many guns I can understand forgetting one... or 12.

Whatever you do for a living, how do I break in?

Thanks for sharing. I figure if you do one a day cleaning you'd run out of time before you had to start over again. In some ways I'm glad not to have that problem. But good God man what an excellent display. Frank

Is that a Japanese 6.5 model 91 in the lower left of the first picture? My Dad brought one of those back from the South Pacific in WWII, but the Feds welded up the barrel. Since his passing, it now resides in my brothers gun safe along side his Lewis gun and his Browning .30 cal MG.

Very nice collection.

Geeeezzzzzzzz,
Not bad on a Teacher's salary.

LOL, LOL, :)

Beautiful collection and will make a great IRA also!

You may be a gun nut when....

You can misplace guns in your gun room... for decades.

You add partitions to your gun room just to display more guns.

You use Enterprise Inventory Management software and still have only 95% effectiveness.

Your recycle bin includes empty gallon jugs of Hoppe's #9.

You know I have seen motorcycle museums advertised with less models on display....

Good for you!!

Just yesterday i found a 100 rounds of 5.45 that i bought about 2 months ago and forgot i had. Today i woke up and while getting dressed i found an empty Glock 19 mag in one of the dresser drawers. Dont know how it got there or how long its been there. Last week a friend of my spent a weekend looking for a gun he lost. After an extensive search he was ready to call the police and report it lost. I ended up finding it in tge basement shoe closet/storage area on top of an old computer monitor that was on the highest shelf, wrapped in a rag. Last time he saw it was around April. No one knows how it got there since you'd need a chair to stand on to reach up that high!

Thanks, Gents!!!! I went at this very determinedly. Started in 1984 w/purchase of one Numrich re-pro Tommy gun...still have it!!! My wife is a gun & shooting enthusiast, makes it much easier. Her outlook is, "Go ahead & get it, we can always replace the money."!!!!!! I bought 44 machine guns in 1988 alone.......

I am just about done though........in Oct '11, she was going to help a big older farm tractor I was backing up a hill & she ended up under the rear wheel. Lost her lower left leg & the right one was badly crushed. She is finally on a trial prosthesis........not going well as one needs a good supporting leg to properly use a prosthesis. This unending nightmare is finally getting to her, had a small temper fit yesterday in a parking lot, called herself a 'freak show.......' This is a first, I am not sure where this may go............

We are into the hospitals for $1.4m......I have backed way off buying guns..........no more 5$$$$ items for me. This gun collection is her future without me, I am 14 years her senior & you know what that will mean..........her children are usless......

The referrenced Jap gun is a Type 99, an upgraded Type 96, major change is 6.5 to 7.7mm. I like them, have 2 & 2 MG 42s. Right twin gun in the room divider picture w/drum is Jap Air Force Type 100..........in 8Mauser ???...........go figger!!! those folks must have liked confusion!!!

Couple pictures of her shooting..........we have been back since the accident too. PJH

In this one you can see her amputated leg just below her left ear muff. Guy with her stayed there all day, helped her to her stool & put her back into her chair, while I tended guns/reloading/etc..

I'm guessing your NO TRESPASSING signs carry some weight around the county...

Great story of collecting, shooting, and courage!!! Best to your wife!! Tell her from me Press On Regardless!

Thanks again, Gents.....apparently I am still looking for the missing tools & brushes correct for the empty slots per the above pictures.

Anyone???

Arik.....thanks for the direct support!!!! I just knew I wasnt the only one who 're-found' things like this!!! I suspect our areas of interest are not parallels though.........glad you found your 5.45 ammo......but gimme a bit of help, I have seen this caliber mentioned but have no idea what gun (s) use it??? And I have about 50 330 rnd tins I thought were 7.62x54R which turned out to be 7.92x57. This is a good 're-find'!!!!

While I have no guns in the same category as the 're-found' Glock you mention, I do have a S&W #5906 by my tv chair w/round in the chamber (along w/mag. full), wifes TV chair has a Model 10. She shoulder holster carrys a SS Taurus M-86 snubby.

Thanks for the comments about good wishes for the wife. We went to a funeral gathering this evening & she was able to walk up the 6 or so steps to get in....this with the new foot from Thursday. PJH

The 5.45X39 was developed by the Soviets to use in their AK-74, first encountered in Afghanistan in the 1980s, it's sort of their take on our 5.56 NATO round.

You have quite a collection, I was acquainted with someone locally that had a Class 3 collection that rivalled yours, I used to go all glassy eyed, whenever I was able to view it.

I'm very sorry to hear fo your wife's plight, I hope that things improve for her soon, she sounds as though she has the grit to get through it.

"Heckinohio" please adopt me :o

Very impressive collection
still can't find my jaw, must have rolled in under the couch ;)

It'd be a long drive from Idaho, but I wouldn't mind a trip to heck's and back, just for a peek.

Generally speaking, we are open to visits from forum members at most any time.......only exceptions would be her medical arrangment times.

I will give you my phone # if asked for by PM.... & we can arrange a visit at your convenience. Get a couple guys together, & we can go shoot. After all I have 100 acres w/casual shooting ranges. PJH
