There is a unfinished mansion near us. I would say probley would be one of the most exspendsive homes in southern utah were it finished. Looks like they stopped work on it three or four years ago. It belongs (?) to a casino owner that I wont mention. There is a huge casino in mesquite that was finished about four years ago, opened for just a week or two, closed up and just sits. Another in mesquite is empty too. Times are bad. A favorite of mine was the nevada landing at jean nevada. I seen it built and must have spent at least 50 (free ?) various nights there. Today only the huge sign remains, the rest where it sat is sagebrush. The house doesnt always win.
Years ago right after I retired I had to get home quick to wisconsin. At the time for whatever reason I didnt have too much loose money for the trip and didnt know how long I would have to stay there to help dad.
I left california for home. I stopped at the goldstrike with the idea of eating and spending maybe just $80s or so. I walked out $1,200 up a hour later. Drove another 150 miles to mesquite, stopped and won about another $1,400 on BJ. Had another good trip home.
Maybe a month or two before that trip right after I retired I got a call from a hospital in vegas that they had a old friend of mine. The only leads to anyone was he had my phone number in his wallet. I went to handel things for him. He was in and out of concious for a month untill he died. I went home to lancaster maybe twice for a few days to check on things and would return to be by him. It of course started to tap me.
One day I took a break and went into the gold nugget downtown and won close to $5,000 on BJ in around a hour! It financed my stay. Sometimes God looks after fools. I guess he wanted me to stay.
Of course well over half my other trips through the years I am sure I lost but sometimes I had fun doing it.
