INTERNET SNUBBY MATCH

Well, here's my first and only attempt at it this month as I am a bit pressed for time. I just bought this CZ 24 this afternoon and used my test fire to shoot the match. 380 caliber, mixed box of odd ammo and it jammed on all ten shots as the gun is gummed up from old oil from God knows when. I thought I was doing really well until I walked up and saw the one round out of the black. Oh well. 3 inches exactly on a interesting match. If I had the time I would experiment with smaller sized target dots.
The CZ 24 well very well liked by the Nazi SS when they took over Czechoslovakia. Interesting guns that are not too expensive yet.

Nice gun, nice target! :)

Nice match. This means I can use my Lightweight officers ACP that is capable of one holers.

I been carrying it Small of Back for a while. Works out nice on the bicycle and I have no fear of dogs. :)

GADS, I do love shooting with two hands. Takes me back to my younger days when all I had to do was watch the sights instead of watching the shake and the sights. 2.75" with my STI Lawman 4.0. One photo with the ruler and one without. This STI is as accurate at 50 feet as my Curtis built full size.

Did some ammo testing today and the results were acceptable....so I thought I would use my test loads for this semi-auto match. The plate on the right (w/my colt compact) is the test target and the left plate (target) is my entry.

I was not very happy with my semi-auto entry target!!! Took 15 rds. to get 10 on paper. Grrrr....

I then shot my 640 Centennial. All 10 rds. on paper, using full house magnum loads, too. I can't believe that I shoot that 'lil D/A revolver better than my little Colt.

Group size?

Shot my Colt Combat Commander and my RIA Compact. Even without the flier from the Combat Commander the group was not as tight as that of the RIA. And the RIA doesn't even have a barrel bushing! I have since installed a trigger adjstable for overtravel in the RIA and it helps some. Today digging around in some stuff I found one of those fancy 4 prong trigger springs. I'll throw that in there and see what happens to the trigger pull.

RIA: 3.6".
Colt combat Comamnder: 6.0"

Here's a few groups from some smaller pistols. First is a CZ 27. This isn't the only group I shot wih it, and both had high and low fliers. Perhaps due to the ammo: cast bullet handloads dating from 1995. This is an interesting CZ 27 as it's not a wartime gun. It's proof tested 1947, and was made for commercial sale after WW II. Stoegers Catalog had them shown.

The Walther PP seemed to like the ammo, though. This one is marked Manurhin, and was probably made for use somewhere where the Walter marked products were forbidden.

The Llama 380 shot very open groups. I have a plain jane Llama as well as this fancy one , but the trigger pull on this one is better. I think they have very loose tolerances in the barrel bushing and perhaps the rear lockup too.

CZ 27: 7.1"
Manurhin PP: 3.9"
Llama: 7.0"

They forecast wind all week so I don't know if I'll be able to get out to the range. I'd like to try my RIA and a S&W 39 again.

My 3" FBI Model 13, shooting 158 gr LSWCs on top of 3.2 grains of Red Dot. It's only moving about 725 fps in a 3" barrel and shoots under point of aim at 15 yards, but it's one of most accurate .38 Special loads I've found:

2 1/4" - maybe a shade less:

Here is my CZ-82, 9x18 Makarov
ammo: Geco 95 gr FMJ
range: 15 yards, two hands

NOTE: 9 rounds into 3-5/8" - then I blew one! :(
this little pocket gun gives my 1911 a run for its money!!!
group: 7-15/16 inch

greetings

Since my wife seldom shoots her LS, I took it to the range so it wouldn't feel forgotten. :)

ammo: PMC Bronze, 115 gr FMJ
range: 15 yards, two hands
group: 8 inches
obviously, this is not the ammo of choice!

Thanks for hosting!!!

WINNER!!!

The winner for the May match is BB57 with a group size of 2.25". Nice going! I also noted that of the six participants this month, three of us had shot multiple targets with diferent firearms. Keeps things interesting.

Someone will be along soon to post the June match.

June Internet Snubby Match

This month we will revert to the original rule on automatic pistols: barrel length measured from the muzzle to the breech face.

The match should be relatively easy. Couse of fire: 5 shots, 7 yards, one hand, no support, single action. Should produce some tight groups.

However there is an ammuniton requirement: If your weapon is certified for +P, you must use +P or a handload equivalent. If it is not certified for +P, you must use full charge ammunition, eiher factory or handloads, not wadcutters with cat sneeze powder charges. Please specify your load when reporting results. We're shooting only 5 rounds, because factory loads like that are expensive. We'll see who, besides me, has a flinch problem.

This will be my last match as match coordinator; I'm running out of new ideas. It's been fun, though, and I intend to keep shooting in the matches. David R has graciously consented to resume duty as match coordinator starting in July.

I've been shooting full power ammo all along, so this isn't new to me. I figured that was more applicable to a defensive gun.

This month we will revert to the original rule on automatic pistols: barrel length measured from the muzzle to the breech face.

So...a 3" automatic (measured per ATF rules), or a 3" revolver?

And full power ammo (.357 Mag, .38 +P, .45 ACP +P. etc) either way?

In other words:

J-frame 36-1 = full power .38 Special
J-Magnum frame 36-10 .38 Special = .38 +P
J-Magnum frame Model 60-14 and -15 .357 Mag = full power .357 Magnum
Ruger SP-101 3" .357 Mag = full power .357 Magnum.
Model 13 3" barrel = Full Power .357 Magnum (even though the default FBI load was .38 +P, unless specific approval was given).
Kimber Ultra Carry (3" barrel) = .45 ACP +P (since Kimber approves it for self defense and occasional range use).
Kimber Micro Carry (2.75" Barrel) = full power .380 ACP (since there is no such thing as .380 ACP +P)

I suspect the 36-1 and the Kimber Micro Carry will have the edge here in the flinch department given that they just need a full power .38 Special and .380 ACP respectively.

Flinch, we don't do no stinkin' flinch. Stoeger turning barrel 8045 Cougar with 230 gr. JHP, Speer Gold Dot full tilt defense rounds, 5 yds, 1 hand, 5 rounds. Barrel is 3.7" from muzzle to breech face.

Cyrano, so a .45ACP auto barrel that measures 3.7" from the muzzle to the breech face is in the rules then??

Stu
The length of the round is not included this month, so 3" is 3".

With the action closed and no round in the chamber, it can't measure more than 3" from muzzle to breech face.

Mark a cleaning rod 3" from the end, then clear the weapon, put the slide all the way forward and see if the muzzle extends past the 3" mark when the rod contacts the breech face.
