Going back to my early police days I always believed in having a full size gun and a compact sized off duty/back up. For me that meant a 4" Python and a DS. I have owned both a 4506 and a 4566. I presently own (among several others) a 4516. Not exactly a compact but not a full size either. Instead of purchasing a larger 45 I think the 4516 will do all of what I want a 45 to do. It is a little heavy but shoots well.

I had previously seen a 457 at a local gun show. Unfortunately it was gone by today. So I bought a bunch of third gen magazines instead.

The 4516 & 457 share magazines, but I prefer the 4516 myself. It carries better than my 4566, by a small margin. But I will carry both during the cold weather "jacket season", where I can conceal them better.

Summer weather finds my Shield 45 on my hip, but the 4566 TSW is the most accurate. Although all shoot very well in my opinion.

You are very wise to snag all the 3rd gen mags you find these days. But you know that already. LOL!

My "long gone" 457 exhibited early finish wear from the holster, but was dead on accurate for me. Should'a kept that one.

I still own a 4566 and 457, both retired. As noted in a previous thread, would have gone 4516 or 4513 vs. 457 if in the market today. No slight on the 457. Both it and the 4566 are reliable and accurate. Would probably lean towards the 4513 simply because it's lighter. Every time I go to the LGS and see the slew of most likely LE trade in 4513s, am tempted but find it hard to spend the money on something that will simply go into retirement.

I have a 4506 with 50 rounds through it. I keep a 4513 TSW by the bed, and have carried a CS 45 for well over 20 years. All are loaded with Underwood ammunition. I was taught on these firearms, and love them.

Had a 4516 felt like I was carrying a brick.... got a early 6rd 4513; mags were hard to find (pre internet). Had a 4505 for a short while..... got a 4566.

Still have the 4566. But most of my .45 carrying is in the form of a Sig 220 or 245.

That early 4516 was a great gun; just found it a tad large and heavy for EDC.... vs.... a 3913 or 3913NL

I do have a 3913 and a 6906 but generally carry a Shield +. I have also owned in the past a P220 ST and 245. Also own a HK45c, M&P 45 Gen 2 midsize, and Glock 21. I have been and continue to be on the lookout for a 4513. Like the 13 Gen 3 mags that I purchased yesterday, it will hopoefully turn up.

I love both my M457 and my 4516-1...

My M457 was my daily rotation, until I refinished the slide, now I don't carry it that often...

So, I found a M4516-1, refinished it...and now I carry it when I travel...I find it a bit heavy, but it is a great gun...

To me, the 3rd gens are great pistols, yes they are old but NOT obsolete...
