Not quite the same, no. The 908 is kind of a "cheaper" version of the 3914. It uses some plastic parts where the 3914 uses metal (guide rod, mag. release, sights) and has less machining to the slide and frame, making it a little more "blocky". The barrel lock-up is a little different as well, with the 908 locking into the slide by the barrel hood while the 39 series uses barrel "lugs" like a 1911.
None of this detracts from the effectiveness of the 908. The 908 is a great pistol - just as good if not better than the 39 series.
