There's a local estate auction this weekend and among the firearms available is this Model 19-4 w/box (SN 40K8215). Not sure what the market here is going to demand for it, but based on this pic, what would a fair offer price be? Know the box itself demands some interest.

looks well worn....as long as lockup and timing are OK I would spend no more than $300 on it.

Certainly no question about the fact it's well worn. These older Smith's aren't my area of expertise and since I was going to be at the auction anyway, figured I'd check here first in the event this model is worth making an investment.

Thank you for the feedback and I'll let you know if I end up with it.

I got a very nice Model 19 recently with the original grips but without the box for $350. It was timed properly and apparently used very little. I considered that a good buy. I would go that, but not much more than that, for the weapon and box PROVIDED it was mechanically OK.

Not worth the time. If you want a Model 19, save your $ and find a LNIB specimen for ~$600. A nice shooter grade should run ~$400+. $350 for what's shown in the photo is a waste of money, when that investment could be put toward something much better.

totally agree with Mc5aw- you can do much better for just a little more$$. There are many nice 19's out there if you're patient. They are a great revolver-I have 2 and would'nt part with them, but you can do better than the one offered here.

I will seriously entertain the thought of buying ANY working Smith & Wesson revolver for $350 or less. If it's not working very well or rusty, I'll pay as much as $150.

I would have to look at that one up close, before I made a determination, but I would certainly bid on it!

the S&W 19 (and it's sister the 66) are quite possibly S&W's finest revolver of all time. I have a 66 that I got from my father, someday my son will have it. It is simply the finest revolver I have ever had the pleasure to shoot.

Mine is a 66 no dash.

If you can get your hands on it before buying it, check two things:

1. Swing the cylinder out and spin it, see if it spins true. GENTLY lock the cylinder back in place (don't swing/slam it shut).

2. Cock the hammer, then try FORCING the hammer forward without pulling the trigger.

If the cylinder spins true, and the hammer can't be forced, then you have a fine gun. :)

One word of caution. It is a Combat Magnum, but shooting a LOT of magnum rounds through it will cause it to start to flex and loosen. I only fire them occasionally, but i do carry them as a defensive round.

Also, avoid +P ammo.

My thoughts exactly, with all of the furor over semi-autos I think these old revolvers will appreciate in value quicker. I am now officially in the revolver mode(S&W of course) and my 1911's are pushed to the back of the safe right now.Just picked up a beautiful 19-3 in superb condition for $450.00 here in Socal which is a steal around here.

Well consider it a shooter grade and not worry about the cosmetic part plus you would still have a fine revolver as long as the price was right. I would say 250-300

for me it depends on if I'm in the market for one or not.If I was looking for one then $350 or $375.but If I wasn't offer $250 or $300 and don't lose any sleep if you don't get it.you can get some bargains that way.
