Is THAT the active shooter?

I think it was last year, maybe the year before. People rushed for the doors at Crab Tree Mall in Raleigh in what they believed was an active shooter. One person was seen drawing his weapon. The source of the gun fire? Someone kicked a vending machine hard out of frustration, in the mall some confused it for gunfire. Again I repeat it is not very intelligent to shoot when there is no clear threat. I repeat though I am no tactical expert, or play one on youtube. I did stay in a Red Roof Inn last August though.

Amazing the things that people mistake for gunfire.

"Active shooter" draw/don't draw etc. scenarios are IMHO so detail/situation dependent that it is virtually impossible to surmise in advance just what one's response would be. Although the reading is entertaining, in a real situation one makes a decision and prays it's the right one. ;)

There seems to be confusion in this thread between making a target of yourself and doing something good.

If you don't want to be shot by police, don't draw your gun until you need to, and put it down or holster as soon as you can afterwards.

If you don't want to defend anyone but yourself, that is your option. It is your option to not help change a flat tire, not shovel your elderly neighbors steps, etc.

But if you are civic minded, and feel that you have the opportunity to save a life - act. Just be mindful of what's going on around you, use the concealment of your weapon to your advantage and don't shoot anyone who isn't clearly shooting innocent people - even if they have a rifle and vest - because some gun people keep that stuff in their cars now days.

Your gun may not even be a factor. You might save a life just by getting a poorly hidden kid to safety.
