Even if most forums and magazines have already gone through this. Seems that most people say that the 10mm is no longer interesting, only perhaps for collection!
I would like you to share your comments on the 10mm, if really someone still is using it and for what purpose? What about the S&W Model 1006, are they in use or to cumbersome?
Thanks for any new info...

I am saving money to have a Fusion 10mm 1911 Bobtail Government model built.
I had a 1006 back in the mid 90's, but foolishly sold it due to lack of ammo availability.

I too wish I still had a 1006. At one point in time, I had a 1006, 1066, 1076, and a 1026. I really think the 1006 with adjustable sights was my favorite.

The search function is your friend. There are numerous 10mm threads around.

I pack one of these two 10mm's or a 2.5" Model 19 every day and have for several years.

I am a firm supporter of the Tim Allen "MO POWER!!" school.

"is the 10mm gone?"

To paraphrase John Wayne-"Not Hardly"!

There are probably more guns chambered in 10mm now than ever before. Furthermore, Vltor's version of the original 10mm, the Bren Ten will probably be ready for the public on or around the 2010 S.H.O.T. show. At that point in time, it will be 3+ years since word "leaked" that they were doing this and hopefully they will be able to put the right foot in front of their left to the point that they finally get something finished and not just give the public Chin Boogey. Correctly executed, it will be the best of all 10mm autoloaders. Further information on this gun can be seen at http://vltor.wordpress.com along with BREN-TEN.com and it's associated Forum.

new to 10mm

As a newcomer to the 10mm I don't really know as much about it's history as some of you. I have started my collection with a 1006 and a 1076. I am already impressed with the power and accuracy of these guns. The S&W 10mms are obviously well built, but they are also easy for me to shoot well. I think we just might see a comeback for the 10mm after all the interest that seems to be here in the forum.

Well Thank you ALL. Very interesting info on the net with your hints! thanks. Really, i thought of something like this and i am happy it is proven by so many of you. Indeed, when loaded near maximum, the 10mm has lot of power and good bullets are available, too. The S&W PC should run a series.

Gun writers have been penning "10mm --- R.I.P." type articles for at least a decade. Well, they have to fill up their gun rags with something, and they have to give the old standbys of 45 vs 9mm and Revolver vs Auto an occaisional rest.

If anything, the TEN is seeing a slight resurgence. Hopefully, the new Bren Ten will be a success.

If the 10MM is gone, I'm stuck with six S&W 3rd gens and one Delta Gold Cup. I have about two thousand rounds of 10mm ammunition purchased before the Obama price runup. Just thinking about this terrible situation makes me smile as I await Vltor's reincarnation of the Bren Ten.

S&W doesn't think the 10mm is dead. One of their latest guns to come out is the 310 nightgard. They are still selling the 610 in various barrel lengths.

With all due regard for posters who have 1911 clones in 10mm (I have A Kimber Custom Target in 10mm) I do not think that the platform is the best for full bore 10mm. So I can understand Colt deciding to drop 10mm if they do, they after all have done so before.
Third gen S&Ws are a different matter.
A 200gr bullet at 1200fps may be a bit much for some but many of us are convinced. I see Double Tap breaking new ground with ammunition, someone besides me must be buying the stuff.

If 10mm is dieing, it is surely taking its time about it. I think it started "dieing" in about 1990 when I bought my 1006 if not before.

My favorite carry piece is my G29 -- it's pretty much an ideal cartridge, IMO... Of course, I carry my 329 NG most days, now.

I have been shooting the 10mm for over 20 years. It is one of my favorite cartridges, offering far more versatility than any other autopistol cartridge.
In addition to the factory guns available, there are a number of custom makers who are keeping busy turning out tens; there are also people converting .45ACP Glocks to 10mm.
The 10mm is also a formidable hunting cartridge. As others have mentioned, Ted Nugent is a big fan; as was the late Chuck Karwan.
Karwan considered the Glock 20 to be the ultimate outdoorsmans sidearm.
