Is the 686 3-5-7 series Talo a stock trigger?

I've got a 5" 686+ 3-5-7 series and I was going to have the trigger worked over but the pull is pretty good both in single and double. I had no trouble staying on a small target at 10 yards in double action just pulling it through without staging. It still has a couple of bumps along the way, but quite smooth and very shootable.

I know the performance center revolvers get a full action job don't they? Does this get anything similar or did I just get a decent one?

My new 67 is much tougher to pull in double and both single and double are not nearly as smooth with a bit of creep in single. I'm not all that worried about it as it's going to the smith next week for an action job but I do wonder about my 686...

Other than the unfluted cylinder, barrel lengths (3", 5", & 7"), and the grips, the TALO Exclusive 686s were standard production line models & didn't get any other special treatment, as far as I know.

While Performance Center triggers might have received special treatment, back in the day, I can tell you that none of the (5) PC models I've bought in the last several years has had a trigger that materially felt, or measured, any better than the standard production revolvers. Randomly some are better, or worse, than others. Mostly in the 4 to 4-1/2# range for SA.

My 5" TALO's SA measured 3.75# after a few break-in rounds. I've tuned it to 2.5# now.

With a little tweeking, here & there, mine groups as good, or better, than my PC models (627PC & 327TRR8).

If you're after a lighter DA pull definitely have it looked at.

Thank you! I didn't think it was altered but I clearly got a "better one" out of the box than I did with my 67. I'm very happy with the 686 out of the box but I'll definitely have to address the 67.

Glad you got a good one! Mine is going to need some work. Trigger is awful compared to my other 686's. I love the 5" barrel and unfluted cylinder, so I will keep it and get an action job done to it.

I have an old 657 PC 357 6 1/2" 41 magnum. I have tried a couple of new 625 PC revolvers. I believe the new PC guns have as good or a bit better trigger than my old 657 PC

Last year I bought from Gallery of Guns a "super tuned" 4 inch 686+, that right out of the box had a trigger equal to my 1980 Python. The description stated something about hand stoned rebound and trigger, but didn't mention Performance Center. This is the only new Smith I've bought that was great as it came. All three of the others had issues, which is why I'm selling them looking for older models.

Sadly, I've gotten three new Smith revolvers in the last 90 days. The 686 trigger is fantastic right out of the box. I can fire .357 in double action pretty quickly and accurately.

The 67 I bought is a bit tougher but still doable. I picked up my 29 classic today and the trigger is HORRIBLE. It has to be 15lbs...

When you have assemblers rather then gunsmiths putting/fitting parts together, and Their need to produce a certain number of finished pieces per day you get hit or miss (no pun intended) quality.
If at all possible, acute visual and tactile inspection of a gun is now almost a necessity to have a better then even chance of getting a trouble free purchase.
Buying online can save a bit of cash, but it is buying a pig in a poke, you never know what you paid for till its too late, and can cost both time and money to correct any perceived deficiency .
Go ahead...ask me how I know.. lol.

The action of my 686-6, Pro-Series, feels real good to me. It is my 1st 5" barrel gun. I enjoy shooting it. Bob
