Is the M&P Shield a pocket gun?

Although it is not a pocket pistol for me, as you have read from the above responses it may work for you. The only way you will find out is to try it for yourself. Take a couple of pair of pants to your LGS and then put the Shield in your pocket and see whether it will fit and whether you can get your dominant hand around the grip. Good luck.

All of this depends on who you are and how you normally dress. I'm 68, 6' 2" & 200 lbs. and cannot seem to pocket anything larger/heavier than an alloy J frame, and that is a challenge in dress slacks (droopy pocket on one side). In retirement my normal mode of dress is jeans or shorts in the summer and I've tried to pocket the small 9s. Just not do-able for me.

I thought my Shield 9mm in a DeSantis holster was a pocket gun until I purchased the Taurus TCP 380.

You know a gun is not a pocket gun when you pass up the refrigerator for the gun safe after a long day at work.

For me the Shield is too big for pocket carry. I picked up the BG380 as my pocket carry alternative to the Shield when IWB is not feasible. I absolutely love both pistols, but IMO they definitely serve different carry purposes.

You can carry a shield in your pocket with loose garments, however it's better as an IWB piece. I can carry my shield in my front pocket w cargo shorts and the like but if you're wearing tighter jeans/slacks I suggest a devoted 380 pocket pistol or a jframe revolver

The Shield is indeed pocketable in most pants, jeans, etc. It can be carried in a UM#4 for better concealment than with the Nemesis. Loaded it is indeed a bit heavy but one can balance it out with a padded Android cell phone wallet in the other pocket. Great for night walks with the dog or to the store. I use a Remora IWB and need to lose some weight to do it comfortably and yet have adequate compressionl I believe Remora is the best IWB without clips or loops. However, I do prefer pocket to other forms of carry.
