IS THERE A BIG SHOT ON HERE THAT CAN CALL S&W TO SHIP OUT A LOAD OF 617 MOUNTAIN GUNS

How many Model 617 Mountain Guns Without the internal lock will S&W need to build, Quality Check, then ship out to the Smith wheel gun lovers ?, and I'm sure there is other models wanted.. Is there anything better to do in the winter time than tinkering around with our guns ? Build something this old man wants to buy in this cold weather, before I get bored to death..

I thought the purpose of a mountain gun was to defend yourself from Grizz or wild boars or something?

It may just be a marketing ploy, although I'd rather have a .44 (or .357) Magnum than a sharp stick in a bear encounter. If it had to have Magnum on the side of the gun, a 12 gauge 3 1/2" chamber would be more reassuring but less portable.

Sure. The recent J frame UC Centennials and the two new 629 and 686 Mountain Guns without the internal lock are all from Lipsey's. Why not contact them? They will probably be able to order 2000 examples more easily than you. :)

The 617 Mg is more of a Mountain gun trainer, yeah ok that was a joke.
Reality is all they have to do is go on the computer and hit enter to produce the barrels since that's the only difference now.
In the old days the frame was notched to mate better to the narrow rib but IIRC that feature is on the 629-2 but gone on the 629-3.
Not a big deal, plus you can always change the barrel to a wide rib if you ever decide to do that where a notched frame won't look right with a wide rib barrel.
In the beginning the Mountain gun had a certain set of common features but many of those common features were not used on all models so there's that.

The reality is we want new different examples, I would also like a 2.5" and or 3" snub K22 that looks like the Model 19/66 snub, a non target sight .22lr k frame Model 45 ( basicly a model 10 in 22lr) in various barrel lengths, A stainless 4" full underllug copy of Model 14, a stainless copy of the old Reg Mag , I could go on....

I’m no “big shot” by any stretch of the imagination, but this Model 63-4 scratched that itch for me. It is the only lock-equipped S&W I’ve ever purchased. My youngest daughter adopted it, but it is back at my house on what I assume is a temporary loan.

It is tons of fun to shoot and rides easily on the hip. I wouldn’t want to face down a bear with it, but it has taken a squirrel or two.

That M63-4 is the style I'm talking about, but in a M617.. I think most people likes the 4" barrel, I may be wrong, I never have tried a 5" barrel, that may be nice.. would be nice to just call Smith and order what we want..

Judging by the first batch of 632/642/442/432UC guns, an order of 1,000 by a distributor or large gun store chain (ex, Cabela's) would get it done. It might not even require that many since it would be less of a departure from existing products than those were.

Trainer? There are graveyards full of guys killed with a 22.

Sign me up for a 617 Mountain gun.

While we’re dreaming, S&W, make a run of M41 Field Barrels. I need another.

Colt should get on the Mountain Gun bandwagon. I like their stuff, but they’re too darn heavy.

If someone here could call up and get a run of certain guns made, it probably won't be a model in 22lr.

I use another program where I just get a frame of the size I want then go out to my shop, set up the barrel the way I want, same with cylinder reaming it is need be and then set up sights and the grip frame however I want.

I tried the day they were released to public but like most of us , not fast enough! So every year I send S&W a email suggesting they make more . I carry a .22 every time I hike ,hunt ,fish . A revolver is preferable as depending on time of year, I have first two rounds are snake loads followed by the rest hollow points . The .22 is my preferred choice because my bird dog is always right there getting into things ! Next k-frame because with my big hands I have never been able to shoot the j-frames as well. Stainless helps for when caught in adverse weather or trout streams that want to swallow engulf one . Basically us buyers are here and a thousand would be gone in a day !
