Is there such a thing as a 9mm pocket pistol

I pocket carry an M&P 9C in a Nemesis, and am quite comfortable with it. Alternates are a Kahr P9, and a PM9. As has been said, a lot depends on your build, and how you dress.

When comparing a Kahr P9 to a Shield, remember that with a P9, you get 1/2 inch more barrel with pretty much the same overall length. More barrel=more velocity.

For those with a PM9, consider buying a couple of P9 mag floor plates and retainers from Kahr. Makes it a whole lot easier to hang on to.

Hmm. A lot of little nines that come up when you google "reliability problems" and "pistol."

S&W Centennial. Fits in pocket, doesn't print in a pocket holster, always -- always -- works.

Like many here, I've tried multiple autos looking for the perfect pocket pistol. For me the issue was rarely being able to fit the weapon in my pocket it was being able to reliably draw the pistol from my pocket. It was usually fairly easy to draw from cargo shorts or pants but not jeans or slacks.

Eventually I came to this conclusion, for a go anywhere all the time pistol the choices are a .380 or smaller caliper auto or a J frame. I went with a J frame and Glock 42. If I had to choose just one it would be the J frame. As someone stated previously the shape of the J frame makes it much more conducive to a reliable draw from the front pocket of just about any pair of pants. It's shape also adds to it's ability to not print in a way that will tip people off that you are carrying a pistol.

The downsides to a snubby are obviously capacity and the willingness to put in a lot more practice time to become and remain proficient with it.

More practice time shooting the J frame Vs. more practice time on "rack, tap, slap, oh cr@p" drills with the semi. You pays your money and you takes your choice. Tried a Glock 42 recently and if I was going to go the .380 route, that would be high on the list.

People's size and tolerances vary so much. Don't think I could pocket carry a mp compact. Takes a mighty big pocket to hold and retrieve it from plus it needs the ability to support the weight. If I used a cargo side pocket the banging in to my leg would be a distraction.

I don't care for those sharp-edged plastic mag bottoms used on many Kahr mags, especially when carry IWB, plus they add close to 1/4" to the overall height. I'll be keeping the standard flush mag bottoms on my cm9 and ensure the ones I use come out properly. Do wish they offered a proper factory mag with a flush bottom for their 45s though.

99.7 % of the time my everyday carry is...........

............a 649 in .38 Special.Yes it is heavy.

If I have to carry a semi in my pocket it is this one.

Kahr MK9

and yes it is heavy too, but I find this one to be very reliable, as much as a semi can be.

question

3 pages and nobody mentioned a 232 Sig.....is there a reason???
seems like the line are smooth and not boxy. the 380 is diminutive but close in would work and many have mentioned other 380's.
Thanks for any reply

I have Glock 26 in belt holster. (The Glock is too fat to pocket carry regularly.) so I got an M&P bodyguard 380.
The 380 is about all that will comfortably fit in pocket.(IMO)

the 232 is an excellent gun....it is long(about 6inches)almost into full size gun category and heavy (220z. empty in stainless steel). It holds 7+1.
the Bodyguard weighs 12 oz. and is about 4 inches long.holds 6+1.
I had a P232 ...had to belt carry it and ended up getting a 9mm instead.

I personally carry a Kel-Tec P32 in the pocket. I've got several other weapons that are pocketable, probably around 10 of them...but none of them are as small or as light as the P32. It's one of my favorite pistols I own.

The only thing I trust (reliable & good trigger) that fits my pocket is J-frame or LCR.

The OP asked for a pocket 9mm. I read every comment on the first page. Lots of small 9mm pistols. I skipped to the third page... 380s, 32s, and even a 38 special autoloader... How are these 9mm? Yeah... I know the 380 is a 9mm SHORT. Its not what the OP asked for.

If you want a small, pocket comfortable 9mm that goes BANG! every time, consider something like this...

I carry a Sig P938 in my pocket. 6+1 of 9mm with night sights. Recoil is good and it works just like a 1911.

You can get some really hot load in .380 that's hotter then a 38 load you know! The LCP is is really small and has been 100% for my wife and I, true pocket gun ? Yep sure is!.. Our LC9 is darn small and light also is it a, pocked gun? IMO Yes because years ago pocket guns were much bigger then a LC9.. If you have them both you will have something that should work for you so you can carry 100% of the time..George

What is a cut down G17?
*
Often referred to as a 19L, it is a G17 with the grip frame cut down to G19 dimensions. I carry it in a Fricke Nehemiah IWB most of the time. With the 19 grip frame size, there is plenty for a good grip, especially since I have relatively small hands for an adult male my size. Using a G19 mag, there is much less risk of printing, but it will do just fine with G17 mags such as what I normally carry as a spare (or more than one).

This concept has been pushed the most by one person as far as I know. He goes by "Nyeti" on this and other forums. I had the work done by someone he recommends, conveniently located in Post Falls. I also have better sights and some other stuff done to make it easier to shoot well.

Not a pocket pistol in any normal pocket, of course, but a good pistol to shoot and rely upon.

Nobody has mentioned the Bond Arms brand, a two shot break open (reliable) derringer that has something like 26 barrel options including 9mm. High quality, a little heavy, limited # of ammo but easy reload, oh and a bit pricey for what you get. I'm wanting to upgrade my pocket carry from my .22mag NAA Wasp to maybe this, the Backup model in 45acp or Colt Mustang XSP in .380 or the Glock 42 or Sig P938 or...I know, not much help here...

Stay safe, John

I'm not a good enough shot to only count on two :)
