Is this a fair trade?

I have a 4" 28-2 (1969) that I have posted for sale in a local forum and someone has offered me a 4" 586 no dash nickel plated (not sure about age) in trade. The plating looks decent. Both guns come with original wood grips and aftermarket rubber grips. I wasn't sure if this was a good trade so I thought I would ask the experts.

Also, I have never had a nickel plated gun and have no idea about the pros and cons about them. Any info would be helpful and extremely appreciated.

It's a pretty fair trade , to me your trading .357 for .357 and you like the look of nickel, IMO keep the 28 its P&R but if your going to sell/trade then 586 is an excellent gun and choice.

I would have to agree on the value being about even.
That being said, I wouldn't trade my HP for a 586.
Would much rather just buy the 586 out right.

Looks like around 1982 on the Nickel. Between the two I would keep the 28-2. Pinned and recessed, blued (which I like better), a little older and these seem to be going up in value lately.

I would not make that trade. I'd rather have the 28. I think it has a little more value than the 586 so I would want money to boot. How much? I'd have to examine both guns a little closer. That said, if you want the 586 and feel good about the trade, then go for it and don't look back.

I have a 686 and a 28-2. I enjoy shooting the 686 much more than the 28...but then again, I don't have large hands. I think the L frame is a great size for 357. The pinned barrel won't make it shoot any better. I also enjoy nickel guns but the pinned barrel might make the 28 more collectible if that is you sole goal. They are both great. I wish I had a 586 to go with the 686.

Both are excellent revolvers, but they are not making any more M-28's and they are still making the L frames.
The finish on your M-28 appears to be in better condition than the nickel finish on the 586.
If it were my decision, which it is not, I would hang on the my M-28 and buy a 586 or 686 when I was ready.

I would not make the trade. Your 28 looks to be in nice condition and you have the original grips. the four inch barrel is popular. Id keep it.

Personally, I would not make the trade. That is a nice 4'' 28 that many would love to own. IMO it is more desireable.

I guess there is a following for nickle 586's, but even for people who like nickle I've learned; bad nickle finishes look..........bad
