Is this generation taller than us?

I'm 5'7" and my son is pushing 6' but some of my mother's family were in the 6' area. My oldest grandson is around 5'5" and 150 pounds at age 10! His younger brother is about normal for an 8 year old but the granddaughter looks like she may end up being a tall one also. At age 5 she's almost as tall as the 8 year old.

I don't notice any difference these days.
I was 5' 7 3/4" about 25 years ago. A few years ago my Wife was at the doctor and they measured her. She hadn't lost a bit of height. A friend of mine had remarked he was getting shorter, so I asked her doctor (gynecologist, actually:D) to measure me. I was 5' 6 3/4". Gotta be somebody I can sue about that.

People say I'm short. I do not agree. There are some people God made, looked at and said "Hmmm, better keep addin' to that one". Some of us he made and said "guess I got that one right the first time, better leave 'em as is".:D

It's all in your attitude.

6'4" and the wife is 5"8" but we were born in 1933 and 1942. Understand that during the period we were gaining in height but it has stopped and people born in the past 10 years are slightly shorter.

I was born in 1933 and am 6' 3". I wasn't noticably taller than my contemporaries.

We're kind of backwards here. The Japanese side are giants by conventional standards 5'10" or taller. The white side averages 5'6", I'm 5'9" and I've been called short.

My brother and I were taller than Dad. My son is taller than me. My five month old grandson looks like he's gonna be a whopper. Probably the steroids they put in the fried chicken.

At 53 I'm at the trailing edge of the baby boomers. At 16 I was 6' and one of the taller guys in my grade. Well I'm still @ 6' and looking up to many middle schooler's, including the females.

Look at the average size of high school football players today. At that age these guys would have crushed us.

Yea, in my neck of the woods young people are much larger today.

My freshman year of high school was 1957-58 and there were 5 boys in our class over 6' tall with me being one of the shortest in that group at 6' 1" and the tallest being 6' 3". There were quite a few comments from teachers and others that saw us together, as we were all best buds and ran together. My youngest son is the same height and my older son is 5' 10". Looking back at my male relatives, nearly all were 6' or taller and the women were all very short...many barely over 5', including my mother. My older brother was a tad over 6' and my younger brother only 5' 9", so I guess at least one of us had to take after mom...:)

At 6'6'' I have the title of "Worlds Tallest Midget." This was bestowed upon me by some of my shooting pards.

I hate you tall people! At 5'7", I even have to get my Bermuda shorts shortened!

Don't sweat it. I've shrunk to close to that height and wear cargo shorts or others of that length from mid-spring to mid-fall without having them altered. As old and ugly as I am I don't really give a damn anymore. :)

Just remember this wise saying of our forebears:

"The bigger they are, the harder they fall."

I know the older and fatter I get the harder I hit the ground.

The other day my old dog took my feet out from under me and that old ground didn't give a inch.

I think so. My father is 5' 7", and I'm 6' 2". The doctor says my son will probably be 6' 5"+... Seems like when ever I'm around a lot of elderly guys, they tend to run on the short side; 5' 7" - 5" 9".

Of course there's exceptions, but it just seems that way. The younger generation seems to be pretty tall, a lot of 6 footers and up. I'm sure there's some government/CDC stats floating out there to provide data on this. Maybe some industrious type will even Google up an answer...

BTW, I grew up in an area with a lot of old homes, and the door frames were always very low. Also low shower heads, and shorter beds, too...

Reading some family history information, my great-great grandfather who served in the Civil War was said to be above average height...5'8". Both of my grandfathers were 5'8". My dad was 5'11". I'm a little over 6'. Two of my sons are about 6' and one of my sons is 6'5". So, I would say that perhaps we are gradually getting a little taller.

But, when push comes to shove, whether we are 5'4" or 6'8", the important thing is that our legs are long enough to touch the ground.:)

Me - 39 - 6'3"

Wife - 3? - 5'11"

12 year old - 5'9"

3 year old (just turned) - 3'6"

23 month old 2'11"

I once dated a chunky little gal who was 4'9"

Good thing she looked to be in her 30s, I'd hate for an Amber Alert to go off when we went on a date :D
