Is this the definition of futility?

The wind is currently running over 25 mph sustained here in the Vegas valley. Indeed, the last report from the North Las Vegas Airport says wind 48, gusts 61. And yet, dear reader, I hear the wailing moan of somebody operating a leaf blower in my neighborhood.:confused::confused:

Yes, I know the airflow from a leaf blower greatly exceeds the values above, but two seconds after its operator moves an item of debris to where he/she wants it, what do you think is going to happen?

No doubt John Travolta's character in Battlefield Earth had it right when he uttered the line, "Stupid humans!"

I watch them blow stuff out into the street, so my tax paid street sweeper can take it away.

SOP here, too, Today, if they blow into the street here, it will all be back in our yards within two minutes of their departure.

WOW! Now THERE'S and obscure movie reference!

I'd bet not 1 person in 100 saw that movie - and even fewer have read the book. Terl was probably right.in his assessment of people in general.

I used to have a professor who liked to say that "most of you don't realize just how DUMB the average person is."

I've been accused of being a bit of a Polyanna - but never Pannglossian.

As to the question of futility - this sounds like The Old Woman and the Sea - with a leaf-blower instead of a broom!

I would go see your neighbor, tell him how great he is, and buy him a sixpack.

My upwind neighbor does NOTHING with her leaves. I go out on nice days and clean my lawn meticulously, and when the wind comes up it bows all her leaves on MY lawn. But leaves, pfffft, I can "almost" live with that. It's her red coffee cups that she throws out of her car window every day that REALLY **** me off.

"

Is the wind in his face or his back? Larry

I did my yardwork this morning, 2 hours of solid, all machines working landscaping. Told my neighbor when I last did it end of January: "I'm not touching it until March." A man of my word, I am;) Joe

We had a shooting incident here last week. A maintenance man at an apartment complex was blowing leaves off the lawn . One of the apartment residents took exception to the maintenance man blowing leaves toward his car, and an argument ensued, the outcome being that the resident shot the maintenance man. Not sure whether he died or not. As might be assumed, the shooter had a criminal record.

I am not a fan of leaf blowers in general... This just seems pointless!

What really grinds my gears is when my idiot neighbors use weed wackers and they fling rocks (rocks in the desert yards of Arizona) at your house (thankfully we park vehicles inside garage)...

I have seen Battlefield Earth twice. The first time I was in an unaltered state.

It was so bad that I had to see it again but in an altered state.

It didn't help.
Yeah, as is so often the case, the cinematic version didn't do justice to the original written version (the book).

Its really hard (almost impossible) to render a well-written Sci-Fi book into a movie for the Big Screen. Dune and Starship Troopers are two great examples.

Frank Herbert and Robert Heinlein would both be rolling in their graves if they could see the cinematic renditions of their novels.

JMO...

As someone who grew up and for quite a few years on my own homestead using hand nippers and a machete to trim and edge and waving a broom to fan leaves off of rocks before sweeping I take great joy and pleasure using my 2 cycle labor saving devices and encourage anyone who may have reservations about my doing so bring their concerns directly to me.

My drive is cut into a hillside and slightly slopes towards the garage. The prevailing wind does the same. There are times when I try to blow all of the leaves out while they come right back in my face. The gods think they’re funny lol
